Hoping to attract truck drivers to Bert's place, Rufus persuades Bert's wife Claudia to post as "Frisco Fritzi," a gum-chewing, sharp-tongued waitress.

Accompanied by an old boyfriend, Claudia attends an upscale social event. Bert and Rufus pose as waiters to keep an eye on her.

Rufus and Bert try to become volunteer firemen, but Bert has trouble passing the main test: making friends with the firehouse dog.

Bert sadly informs Rufus that the regulars at the weekly poker game don't want him around.

Dusty old prospector Sierra Jake enjoys a hearty breakfast at the diner and pays his bill with a ragged treasure map he claims leads to a pirate's bounty. Bert laughs it off, but Rufus is convinced and sets off to discover the fortune, arousing Bert's suspicions.

Rufus happens upon a promising songwriter and persuades Bert to represent. Claudia's former boyfriend is now a record producer and Bert convinces him the diner is a chain. An order of 3,000 rolls is the result.
