Zusammenfassung
Reviewers say 'Landman' is lauded for its realistic oil industry portrayal, strong performances, particularly by Billy Bob Thornton, and compelling narratives. The gritty depiction of industry challenges and personal sacrifices is appreciated. However, criticisms include one-dimensional and overly sexualized female characters, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in the oil business depiction. Pacing and certain character developments are noted as areas for improvement. Despite these issues, many find 'Landman' an entertaining and thought-provoking series.

So far the show is good very good, one feeling i can not shake is the daughter. In the show they state the daughter is 17 years old, then proceed to sexualize her in an extreme way! Shower scene, talking sex with her dad, showing her butt! All those scenes have 0 to do with the story line and makes it for an uncomfortable watch. I understand what they are doing with the character, a daughter going down the wrong path and her dad is going to get her on the right path. Could have been easily avoided just stating she was 18, you can be 18 and still in highschool! I wish they rewrote her charter and no clue how this got through editors.
For someone so focused on his goals, the inclusion of an emotionally unstable, one-woman circus undermines the purpose of the show entirely. It feels like her character disrupts the central narrative, adding unnecessary chaos rather than supporting his journey. The portrayal doesn't enhance the storyline but instead makes it harder to take his determination and focus seriously.
Similarly, the roles of both his wife and daughter feel out of place within the series. The wife comes across as emotionally erratic, while the daughter seems to lack intellectual depth, making her contributions to the plot negligible. The daughter's portrayal feels particularly shallow, with her character offering little beyond surface-level engagement, which doesn't add value to the story.
Moreover, having these characters constantly jump around in provocative clothing, seemingly for no purpose other than to attract views, feels out of sync with the tone of the series. Instead of enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach comes off as a superficial tactic to draw attention. It's a strange and unneeded addition that detracts from the overall quality of the narrative.

This could easily have been rated an 8.5 - 9. If it weren't for the cringey and so sexualized daughter & ex wife/mother. They serve no purpose to the plot, and are just downright annoying and insulting to west Texas women. A far west Texas man myself I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a sense, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Now aside from that, the writing and acting are terrific. Sheridan easily has another Yellowstone on his hands if he gets rid of the very uncomfortable interfamily horniness. But again, love me some Sheridan writing (and acting) and an absolutely very enjoyable show, for the most part.
Watching Billy Bob stride across the open landscape in the opening scene, I'm thinking "look at the low riding jeans, little pot belly, and overall aging appearance", and wondering just how he was cast for this tough oil man character. Fear not, Billy Bob not only carries it off with style, the writers gave him some of the best lines ever. The writing is truly top notch. The women though, yeegads, Angela and Aynsley are weird caricatures of strong but shallow women. "T&A series" was overhead while eavesdropping on a group of men discussing the series. But as an older woman, I still thoroughly enjoyed the biting commentary on the oil industry, wind farms, solar energy, and political machinations behind the scenes. And Billy Bob is great, as always.
Like the show and everything Taylor Sheridan does, but, where was the technical consultant. At the pump rig accident, Billy Bob isn't even holding the pipe wrench correctly. Nobody on set knows to advise him on something so basic.
I had to play it back when I couldn't beleive what I had just seen. And in the accident scene, a real crew would have the proper equipment and working know how. Like a 36" pipe wrench that a couple of guys could get behind. And a hand held monitor for explosive gasses. Nobody would bang on a short pipe wrench with a mallet. Hell, grad a 2 ft pipe to extend the arm if its all you gave available. Having worked in similar places, the show is way off the safety precautions used in the industry, which is OSHA by the book to a the ridiculous. Nobody would be standing on a truck load of pipe, and nobody is at height without a safety harness.

- WissenswertesTerms used:
- Blowout - uncontrolled release of gas or formation fluids from the well to the surface.
- Christmas tree - collection of gauges, valves and chokes mounted on a well casing head. These are used to control the flow of oil and gas from the wellhead
- Drillstring - The column of pipe that transmits drilling fluid and torque from the top drive/rotary table/kelly drive to the drill bit.
- Fluid impaction - refers to a situation where the flow of fluids (oil, gas, water) within the wellbore is severely restricted due to solid particles within a fluid (like oil or drilling mud) collide with and become lodged against a surface due to their momentum, typically occurring when the fluid is flowing through a narrow passage or encountering a sudden change in direction, effectively "impacting" against the surface and building up a deposit
- Fracking - Is a slang term for hydraulic fracturing, which is the process of creating fractures in rocks and rock formations by injecting specialized fluid at high pressures into cracks to force them to open further. Fracking increases the rate at which water, petroleum, or natural gas can be recovered from subterranean wells.
- Joint - A length of drill pipe, that is 30 - 32ft long. Joining a few of these pipes together, it becomes a drill string
- Perforation - When an oil well is drilled to the desired depth, it is a question of accessing the reservoir oil and gas in the surrounding rock. To do so, one perforates or adds small holes through the casing (barrier that is added to prevent the collapse of the wellbore) of the well, creating a pathway for oil and gas to flow from the reservoir formation into the wellbore.
- Scaling - Over the course of time, solid mineral deposits that form within the wellbore and production equipment. It usually occurs when dissolved minerals in the produced water (brine) precipitate, dissolved substance separates from a solution and forms a solid, and accumulate on surfaces. As a result, these deposits restrict the flow of oil and gas.
- Pumper - Another term for 'Lease Operator' is a worker in the oilfield whose job is to tend to the wells (Pumpjacks) and record data such as pressure at the wellhead and perform maintenance when applicable. Most Pumpers also tend to the central tank batteries (CTB) in which the wells pump the oil into tanks and the pumper is responsible for calculating how much production was made in a 24 hour period.
- Tong - specialized type of wrench
- Tripping pipe - refers to pulling "joints" of pipe back out of - or putting them back into - the well.
- Wellbore - The drilled hole, including the open hole or uncased portion of the well, or the shaft that extends from the surface down into the ground, atop of which is the wellhead
- Wellhead - the physical structure built above the ground, over an oil or gas well, essentially the point where the well connects to the surface, the wellhead's primary function is to control pressure during drilling and production through the use of the Christmas tree
- Workover - The process of repairing or maintaining an existing well to restore or increase production.
- Worm - An inexperienced oilfield worker
- PatzerAt least two episodes show a vehicle on the road with no inspection sticker displayed on the front windshield which is required by Texas law.
- Zitate
Sheriff Walt Joeberg: [looking at Tommy's broken finger] You don't want to go to the hospital for that?
Tommy Norris: No. I want a cigarette and a Dr Pepper.
