Already looking forward to next season

I actually really enjoyed Shrinking. It's about a grieving therapist (Jason Segal) who has enough and starts telling his patients exactly what he really thinks of them. What follows is a really funny series that will make you laugh out loud. The best part of the show are the interactions between Segal's character and Harrison Ford's character. This show has gotten nothing but great reviews for a reason. This show will no doubt be nominated for all kind of awards and deservingly so. It must be doing well because it's already gotten an early renewal for a second season. I can't wait to see more of this!

Wasnt Expecting This To Be This Good

Two episodes out currently and this show exhibits a lot of promise, the chemistry between characters is infectious and even oddly so at times... its heartwarming in ways that most shows aren't, reminding solely of the show Community for these elements. I'm not sure if this accurately displays a therapist's way of coping with issues but it sure does allow room for Jason Segel to put his own spin on it. Harrison Ford plays Dr Rhodes, Jason's boss and mentor of sorts.. I wasn't sure how his character was going to work in this show but the antisocial likeness of Rhodes sure does play into a persona that Ford meets quite well when thinking about the more apprehensive elements of his character Han Solo in Star Wars, it just fits like a glove in this show. Somehow all too relatable, Sean (Luke Tennie) plays somewhat of a son figure to Jimmy (Segel) while he deals with familial issues of his own with his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell)... What I see here feels so vivid and the possibilities maybe (?) endless as I see Jimmy navigate these things. Btw, the intro theme to this show is so good, I didnt even skip it when watching the 2nd episode... And the music in this show is so good. Overall this is turning out to be a wonderful show and I hope it only keeps getting better from here.

Go watch it RIGHT NOW!!

This show slaps!! The characters have a lot of growth even in the first and second episode, the jokes are perfectly timed and executed, and all of the actors are doing a superb job! This is one of the best piolet episodes I've seen in quite a while! Harrison Ford does an amazing job in his supporting role and Jason Segal does a wonderful job playing a flawed, damaged character that is trying to be a better person and father. This is one of the best shows I have seen in a while! This show made me laugh like I haven't in a long time. As a psychology student this show is hilarious, and as a theatre student I can appreciate how great the script flows. I cannot understand the negative reviews as this is already one of my favorite shows after only two episodes. I hope the rest is as good!!

Extremely touching and funny at the same time

The show gets you in the feels while laughing the entire way through. The cast is amazing and you grow attached to each character early on. The lessons on life are amazing and really sell the show as one of the best dramedies in the past decade. The show goes over a lot of dark themes with humour in a way that I've never seen in a show before.

Just finished season two and I thought it wouldn't be able to compare but I think season two was even better without having to just rely on the character dynamics. I think the plot lines were intricate and fleshed out. The story also doesn't just rely on Jimmy spiralling and getting better which is what a lot of shows end up doing when they get renewed.

Not silly like other Apple TV+ offerings.

I've watched the first two episodes and I find them compelling. Part of the reason is that I found there was something reality based off a therapist who needs therapy and wants to break through to his patients to unexpectedly break through his own issues.

I also respect the way it is presented - he is not doing something that other therapists should do, and that is quite clear.

It hasn't gotten into the silly situations of other shows like Loot, but it's still early in the series and I'll continue watching it.

The show isn't for everyone. That being said, I enjoy the depth of the characters that don't seem like caricatures; they are people who I am interested in getting to know.

Really enjoying this

From the reviews I'm reading here, people either seem to love this show or dislike it pretty intensely, and it feels like it might depend on the reviewers reaction to Jason Segal. I've enjoyed his movies and I think he's perfect for this role -- and the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to an even higher level.

The writing is excellent, the story is fresh and the characters are original without going over the top into stereotypically too quirky. The relationships are complex and emotional, and very real human challenges are well-drawn. It can be laugh-out-loud funny and in the next minute bring on tears.

I was truly disappointed after the second episode when I realized I would have to wait for more. Highly recommend!

What a treat!

I watched several episodes before writing this review. I have to admit, I was still skeptical in the first episode. But pretty quickly, I grew fond of the characters. The dialogues are genuinely funny and warmly written. The characters are also very interesting and have great chemistry with each other.

Overall, I haven't laughed this hard in years-especially not at a series! That alone shows how well-written it is. A clear recommendation. I really wish there were more productions like this that are truly humorous. I also love the emotional dimensions of the characters. It is also about therapists and therapy and this mirrors throughout the whole series, in a sometimes humorous and sometimes more dramatic way, often subtle which again is so well written. Just a real treat!

This series is packed with punchlines reminiscent of the great comedies from the '90s and early 2000s. Back then, movies had only a handful of jokes, but here, you get plenty in every single episode.

A definite recommendation!

I love Shrinking

We all understand what it's like to live in a world that sometimes makes us feel small. It's those challenges, setbacks, pet peeves, or nuisances of life that we have to navigate in real time. While this isn't what Shrinking is about (lol), this is an excellent show. This is one where the entire cast was picked perfectly, the episodes are quick and seemingly fly by, and above all, the writing is great. There are moments that make you laugh, spit out your coffee, or push replay to make sure you heard correctly. I enjoyed both seasons of this show and hope for many more. If not, it's one for the archives. Should win an award if it hasn't already.

Brilliant in every way

Brilliant in every way. This show had me and my partner laughing right the way through. What surprised us is that it did it with a well throught out, but simple story. The characters were all lovable and had their own qwerks and the humour felt natural and not forced. It really did leave us wanting more so we're both looking forward to season 2!

The only thing I would have liked to see more would be more time in the practice as some of the characters were not fully utilised in each episode.

Harrison Ford stole the show though, his blunt old man routine is an instant winner everytime. But he never overshadowed the other cast.

A Heartfelt Journey Toward Healing

"Shrinking" is a rare gem of a TV series that masterfully blends humor, heartache, and hope to create an experience that leaves you feeling deeply connected, uplifted, and at peace. It's a show that does more than entertain-it soothes the soul.

The story revolves around a grieving therapist, Jimmy (played by Jason Segel), who struggles to navigate his personal loss while helping his patients. The premise might sound heavy, but "Shrinking" balances its emotional depth with a sharp, witty script and endearing characters that you can't help but root for.

Harrison Ford is a standout as Paul, a seasoned therapist with a gruff demeanor and a hidden well of empathy. His dynamic with Jimmy is nothing short of magical, providing some of the series' most touching and laugh-out-loud moments. The ensemble cast shines too, with each character bringing unique layers to the narrative, contributing to the show's central themes of vulnerability, connection, and healing.

What sets "Shrinking" apart is its authenticity. The characters feel real, their struggles relatable, and their triumphs genuinely rewarding. The show doesn't shy away from the complexities of grief or the messy process of moving forward, but it does so with a sense of optimism that feels rare in today's TV landscape.

Every episode leaves you with a warm, comforting sense that, even amidst life's chaos, healing is possible. It's not just the laughs or the emotional moments-it's the way the show threads them together, reminding us of the beauty in our imperfections and the importance of the people who stick by us.

"Shrinking" is a testament to the power of storytelling that doesn't just seek to entertain but to resonate. It's a heartfelt series that lingers with you, making you feel seen, understood, and hopeful. If you're looking for something that will leave you with a smile and a sense of peace, this is the show for you.

Big fan!

This show makes me so happy. It was very well cast and I found myself liking and feeling for the characters early on. Jason Segel is a wonderful dad character and he has really great chemistry with his on screen daughter. Teenage characters can be so annoying but she plays it with a maturity which I find delightful. Jessica Williams is absolutely outstanding and I can't seem to stop obsessing over her. I'm going to go back and watch everything she's been in.

Great one liners and Harrison Ford is an absolute gem. He brings an Oscar worthy performance to each and every scene. I'm so happy they chose and were able to cast him.

Crossing my fingers for a second season after this one wraps!

Suprisingly good - does an amazing balancing act

This starts off looking a bit drab and feely - but settles in after about fifteen minutes into something quite special.

The characters are undergoing some really gut-wrenching issues but somehow it is kept light and funny.

A lot of the humour is snarky and biting but with excellent delivery and is measured in such a way so it never feels like anyone is getting picked on.

This is one of those shows where you can't pick your favourite character because everyone is special and has their moments or adds something.

The acting and writing really is top class.

I am guilty of moaning about programs being too woke - but this is the level ground I am after.

There are "political" jokes but they are witty and good natured and allow you to laugh at yourself.

Is it possible to explore death and loneliness and rejection and debilitating illness in a light and funny way?

It appears so.

I didn't see this advertised anywhere and it could easily have slipped by me - this is really good quality, funny viewing.

Outstanding comedy and drama

I'm not a huge Jason Segel fan, but this show kind of makes me want to be. I cannot gush about it more. It's doing both comedy and drama, and doing both quite well. Damn near every character is interesting and endearing. The closest thing to a character I don't want onscreen is the daughter, Alice, and even she's okay.

Let's start with the comedy. I'm not saying Shrinking will have you grabbing your sides, it's a light comedy. It's not a sitcom where outrageous situations are manufactured by characters being ridiculous and over the top. The comedy comes through literally everyone being a snarky bi--h. In a good way. Every character gets their share of funny lines, and every one of the actors delivers the mail on those lines...again...kind of except for Alice who often feels like the lone straight-man in the show.

I will warn that the humor involves alot of crude verbal humor. If you're someone who is bothered by this...there's enough that it might bother you. It's not 'South Park' levels of crude, but they talk and joke about sexual themes pretty openly and often. If it does bother you...lighten up. But I know some people who get turned off by stuff like this.

The drama is also quite good. The main source of the drama is Segel's character Jimmy having lost his wife and his (and his daughter's) journey back from that. A slower burning drama comes from supporting characters' issues like Harrison Ford's character having Parkinsons, or Christa Miller's characters' empty nest syndrome, or Sean's anger issues, etc.

All of the dramatic issues are handled well, though there is kind of a habit of characters having a 'breakthrough' and then being right back where they were a few episodes later. That could be justified as true to life where healing is nonlinear, but as storytelling it sometimes feels like we forgot ourselves. It's not a major problem, but I think it is a problem.

Easily my favorite character is Jessica Williams' Gaby. My god, she absolutely RADIATES charisma in this role. I don't know how much is writing, and how much is Williams' performance, but she steals every scene she's in. A++.

Segel is ... fine. I think his tone is more sticommy than his castmates. He's competent both as a joke teller and in dramatic moments, but I wouldn't say he stands out.

Harrison Ford does surprisingly well as the grumpy Paul. And does well with both the comedy and the drama. He also, and I'm not sure if this is on purpose, is moving differently from most of his roles. It really helps me see Paul rather than Movie Star Harrison Ford when I look at him.

Christa Miller is funny, but ... my god ... what that poor woman has done to her face is difficult to look at. So much bad plastic surgery. It's like the 'uncanny valley' they talk about with photorealistic CGI. She looks like an AI rendering that just isn't quite human. She's an outstanding comedienne...but looking at her is unsettling. And yet...she's so funny it forces me to look...and then have nightmares.

So many other supporting characters do excellent work. Derek is great. Sean is great. Brian is great. What can I say...this show is great.

The perfect feel-good show

I love this show.

Jason Segel has always intrigued me as a comedic actor. In HIMYM he masterfully showed this loving, between-the-lines thoughtful, crazy, impulsive Beer-cules persona that is both composed and irrational. I guess his capability to act in this way also makes him a fantastic drama actor, shown in the movie Our Friend. His character in this show is no less different, and I love it!!

Harrison Ford REALLY impressed me. Being used to him playing action figures, his role as a somewhat grumpy, careless (and loving but angsty) grandpa in Shrinking suprised me in a good way. It was unusual.

As a psychology student, I really loved the HBO show In Treatment, as it is more realistic in its depiction of the therapeutic process, the thoughts of therapist and the patient. However, its more heavy and therefore more tiresome in the long run. Shrinking though, is less realistic (all the therapists say stupid stuff, its hilarious), BUT way more fun!! Its light hearted, full of sarcastic and poking banter, AND loving, emphatic and thoughtful conversations.

I also love the fact that Shrinking includes people of different backgrounds and heritages without shoving it in the viewer's face. Between the comedic banters and hilarious situations, we see emotional encounters between people with meaningful messages.

Last but not least, Jessica Williams is fantastic in this show. She is perfect for this show, and counter-balances both the irrational Segel and grumpy Ford with the funniest lines. I laugh my ass off! I can't wait for the next season!

Well done Shrinking .......

Shrinking season 01 is a blast. It's comedy at It's peak.

It is risk creating a comedy around a sensitive topic like therapy. It can be taken out of context anytime. Maintaining a balance between topics will be key. Shrinking has captured it beautifully while maintaining balance. The show has captured the comedic side of the complex emotional turmoil that the characters are going through without aleanating them.

I didn't see much of Jason Segel after the conclusion of "how I met your mother". But this show proves that he is a comedy legend in the making. Harrison Ford who is a legend already has proved that even in his 80s there is nothing he can't do. The best part of the show is that every character have his/her own story and a personality which give soo much life to the show.

Highly recommended....

Apple's Best Comedy

Shrinking is an absolute standout, the kind of show that surprises you with its depth and sincerity while keeping you laughing throughout. Jason Segel is at his best here, delivering a performance that's both emotionally raw and genuinely funny. He perfectly captures the complex nature of his character-a therapist who's just as much in need of help as his patients-with a vulnerability that makes you root for him from the start.

But let's talk about Harrison Ford. His role in Shrinking is nothing short of a revelation. We're used to seeing Ford as the tough, no-nonsense hero, but here he brings a whole new dimension to the table. He's gruff, sarcastic, and delivers his lines with that classic deadpan humor, but there's a depth to his character that Ford nails perfectly. The moments where his guard drops and you see the warmth and wisdom underneath are some of the show's most powerful. It's a reminder of just how versatile and talented Ford is, and his performance is a big part of what makes this show so special.

The writing in Shrinking is another high point. The show tackles heavy themes like grief and mental health with a deft touch, balancing humor and heart in a way that feels authentic and deeply resonant. The characters are richly developed, and the dialogue is sharp, making every episode a pleasure to watch.

Overall, Shrinking is an emotional rollercoaster that leaves you feeling uplifted and reflective. Whether you're drawn in by the incredible performances-especially Harrison Ford's-or the sharp, heartfelt writing, this show is a must-watch. It's easily one of the best new series out there, and I can't recommend it enough.

really good

I wasn't expecting this show to be as good as it had been honestly. I came into it wanting to watch it due to the kid cudi music in the trailer, and watching another show with marshall from himym (jason segel) but honestly it was great. So far there has been only one occurance of an incredibly cringey joke. When in episode 3 pan (the racist neighbor) was being racist towards sean. And he said "let me guess your name is karen?" it wasn't an awful joke mind you, maybe if i would have heard it in 2020 i wouldve laughed or given it a small chuckle. But now it just feels outdated and cringey. But i am also wondering how han solo and jason segels daughter know eachother? I am super confused about that. But overall other than those two nit picky problems, i loved it!

So Real

This is such a great show dealing with so many different issues. But somehow they tie-in a comedic form which makes me laugh and cry in almost every episode.

The acting from Harrison Ford is so well done. He is a great foundation to the whole show. He is a great paternal figure but has his own struggles too.

The settings, colors, clothing styles and even cars have such a new 2020s Pottery Barn catalogue vibe but it works!

Well done Apple TV, I have officially renewed my subscription just for this show. I really hope that the writers continue to develop the stories and characters without taking a curveball.

Love it

The only complaint I have about this show is that each episode is only 30 minutes long. From the opening song performed by Death Cab for Cutie to the stellar cast to the refreshing spin on mental health issues- it's the best new show I've seen since Ted Lasso- but it's got more potential. Jason Segel is so relatable as Jimmy, the grieving father and therapist. You can't help but root for him and look forward to seeing how his professional and personal relationships progress (or digress) as he continues to stumble out of his grief. I am reminded when I watch that we are all just human and we have got to do what we can for each other. I look forward to the rest of the season.

Funny. Feeling. Real

Constantly funny in a mature and irreverent way. Sometimes it's a little too cute. Serious/realistic relatable situations. Fantastic writing acting and personalities. Jason Segel kills this role and so does the rest of the cast, especially Ford. Enjoyable all the way through.

the new ted lasso

Similar feel good vibe to early seasons of Ted Lasso, but so much more funny. I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

First episode was pretty standard, but it really gets cooking around the 3rd one in. Still haven't finished it, but it's drawing me in more with every episode. Definitely recommend.

Came for Jason Segel and Harrison Ford but Jessica Williams, Cristina Miller, Lukita Maxwell, and Luke Tennie are all such great surprises. They all have great comedic timing and chemistry with each other. Every character adds to the story and the new plot lines don't distract from the main but add to it.

Excellent and therapeutic

We need more shows like this. It's not frequently I come across a show that feels like it has something deeper brewing under the surface of it. More often it's either rudely in your face and preachy, or otherwise just devoid of any emotion or meaning. This feels like it transfers into reality, and the happiness it gave me watching this was cathartic and real. I'm one of the people who have taken up therapy in their life and spent a great deal of time within the world of psychology and recognised so much from that in this show, in situations that didn't feel clinical or over written, polished or perfect and it's refreshing to see that. Characters are in vulnerable places, imperfect and struggling with the many kinds of death and loss we face in our life, getting by on the little things, rebuilding, finding gratitude and happiness and empathy; dealing and not numbing. This show rewarded with the kind of elation you feel when you work on yourself, or simply figure something out, or sometimes find the strength to get through one more day. If you're feeling low or down, I strongly recommend Shrinking.

It's all about the characters

I love them all. I recognize so many of them from my own life.

The show is funny and heartwarming, and the actors are all amazing.

Sure, a little bit over-the-top sometimes, but they're all still lovable and real, in many ways.

The jokes are funny, (Harrison Ford is believable and genuine, but funny and cranky all at the same time!) The show deals with real problems, and actually shows us how to process and deal with some of them: Grief, love, anger, jealousy. Forgiveness and love. Growing up, at any age, growing old, and acceptance.

People who didn't like Ted Lasso should stay away. You need a heart for this one too.

Boop

This is good. This is very good. This is the best written thing I have seen in a long time.

It can go from laugh out loud funny to genuinely touching and sad in an instant, and then back again. Jason Segal and Harrison Ford are superb from the start and throughout but it's the development of Alice (Lukita Maxwell), Gaby (Jessica Williams) and Sean's (Luke Tennie) characters is where this really shines. As a comedy it is very funny but it deals with tragic circumstances in a very relatable way. The finale was a perfect wrap-up to a near perfect series.

Season two cannot come soon enough. Boop.

Best Series I have seen for a while

The narrative, the interaction between different characters, the positive energy, the jokes, the sorrows all mixed up so well in all episodes. Each character has his/her own charm that somehow have such a great chemistry when mixed together. They feel so natural, as though they are actually friends in real life.

I usually like watching Action series, but Shrink somehow makes it fun, exciting, and give a 'good feelings' throughout the episodes. I found myself laughing a few times without realizing it, and even getting my tears down my cheeks.

I especially love Paul (Harrison Ford)'s character. He's the character that cracks me up the most. Mr. Ford doesn't disappoint me again :)

Love this series. Thank you guys.
