The French version is very different from the Italian one, because Alain Delon imposed several cuts and changes in the editing. Years later the actor declared he regretted changing the movie, as it was one of the most intense of his career.

Director Valerio Zurlini and protagonist Alain Delon didn't get along on the set, and for most of the production Zurlini communicated with Delon only through his aid.

Besides Gerardo's Lamborghini Miura featured in several scenes, there is also a Ferrari 330 GTC driven by 'Spider' in the middle of the film.

The title comes from a poem written by the protagonist, in which he defines death as "the first night of quiet" as it is the first sleep without dreams.
