Thank goodness they have the cowboy scenes 'cos the rest of it is getting treacly slow.
It still draws you in and you can't even take a toilet break, but the life is ebbing out of this series.
For some unfathomable reason they have played up the roles of Jamie's father, who I think is a very poor casting choice, and the kid, Carter
The father seems too smug and self righteous for his murderous background and the kid, well, he's just the motherlode they mine for every trite emotion possible.
We finally get to see some balls from Mr D in his relationship with his daughter Beth, but there was simply no direction at all in this episode.
Jamie himself is such a wuss, pussy whipped by his girlfriend and so sandbagged by his real Dad that you lose any sympathy for the character.
The side story about Jimmy at the 6666 ranch in Texas is well put together and there's some outstanding displays of horsemanship that have you gasping in admiration.
I enjoyed it and the hour went quick but I had to fast forward on a few scenes.... which is never a good sign.
You have to say that Costner himself carries the load, he's just brilliant in every scene, especially the one where he faces off against the new Sheriff.
I still love the show.

I agree that this season is the weakest so far. Not the biggest fan of the storylines. I personally haven't found them all that interesting. Not going to give up on the show and hope its just a bump in the road and not whats to come.
What a horrible season. The important parts and interesting plot stories could be summarized in about 5 episodes, not 9. What's going on here. Hey Tyler, Nobody wants to see you act and wants to see your dumb horse dances even less.
Yellowstone has evolved into a Soap Opera with great scenery. There must be some new show coming along called 1883 (Facetious). I agree with a good many previous posts some step change has occurred in the writing or directing. This season is built on mysteries in which no effort has been made to resolve. On the upside. Jefferson White is doing a superb job growing his character. There are plots that go nowhere. That has nothing to do with the Actors, which are AMAZING!! The Actors can only do what the writers provide them. 1883 needs to fold up and so Taylor can focus on Yellowstone.
What happened to this season? Because nothing really happens. Nothing really drives any story forward. It's slow talking pseudo emotions, an infomercial for rodeos and spinoff shows and some random events.
I agree with others, the style is still there and it's still watchable... But the entire season just feels empty and lackluster.

John Dutton: Let me tell you what fair means. Fair means one side got exactly what they wanted in a way that the other side can't complain about it. There's no such thing as fair.
