Director Kostis Charamountanis presents a refreshing tale of the family drama genre without cheap sentimentalism but with a good realistic heart and soul. Filled with gorgeous camerawork, soundtrack and atmosphere, Charamountanis successfully captures a summer tale about family, sailing across the Greek oceans, fish eating, and the character dynamics. Each of the dynamics between father and children, the dialogue and the realistic approach to it's subject was well executed. Without feeling forced, cheesy or all over the place.
Alongside with some good editing choices and Charamountanis's direction, the performances from all the cast members are really good as their emotions, personality, and character choices were engaging and realistic.
Certainly, it isn't a masterpiece as I would have wished certain elements of the story could have been a bit stronger. But for what the movie is, it's a good Greek family drama.

While it's script could improve regarding it's structure and pacing, it's a slow-burn yet good exploration character study about the individuals who are anti-government "sovereign citizens" filled with a strong emotional and tenseful atmosphere, good direction, and two great performances from Nick Offerman and Jacob Trembaly.
What director Christian Swegal does well is that capturing the essence of what sovereign citizens are like, capturing their selfish and controversial beliefs without feeling forced or messy. The direction on the tone, the writing and what the purposes for the characters and choices were realistic and tense. Including great themes about the poison settings of indoctrination amongst people and how it can cause an affect on society. Alongside with the good camerawork and soundtrack, as mentioned, Offerman and Trembaly provides great performances to their chilling and uneasy characters, allowing them to have some great dialogue moments and tension between the topics of father and son.
Regarding it's faults, the emotional layer on certain elements and some writing moments did feel a bit short. As if there were patterns and decisions that could have been a bit better. But overall, it's strong debut direction and atmosphere showcases the extremist and unfortunate relevance of today's society in the United States.

The character of Superman has been adapted numerous times and it has begin to grow tiresome and cliche as each new adaptation arrives. James Gunn vision of Superman offers a different perspective and tone on the character and world of Superman. Despite Gunn's passionate and some fun perspectives, unfortunately, the predictable writing, clunky character developments, and cliche structure fails to offer a unique experience.
For starters, I have not really been impressed with Gunn's work as I found many of his directing and writing works to be pretty overrated and uninteresting. Here, the direction on maintaining the tone and atmosphere is solid, as there are some decent fun and serious elements blended together within the narrative. Alongside with some solid camerawork, the performances from the cast members were good. David Corenswet performance as Superman was solid as Corenswet does a solid job on capturing the fun, youthful and personality of Superman. Alongside with Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Rachel Brosnahan, and Editing Gathegi.
However, as the typical Superhero trope, the writing, development and creative choices were cliche, uninteresting, and structure messy. Each moment where the characters are heading and focusing were predictable as it doesn't offer really anything new to Superman. Gunn does try to implement serious and some political themes within the narrative to make it more powerful and emotional. Unfortunately, the writing and themes feel messy as it felt as if the concepts and tone were unbalanced. To top it off, the production designs and CGI were quite noticeable and the dialogue feels cheap and poorly executed at times. The character and chemistry development between one another don't have a strong emotional connection, which resulted into making it quite difficult to believe a single word from any of the characters.
As a whole, the Superhero genre has become overdone and uninteresting. Each moment where DC and Marvel creates a new Superhero movie, no matter what creative approach or new theme it comes, to it's core, the writing, concepts and structure remain predictable, cheap, forced, and uninteresting.
This latest Superman movie will fascinate many which is great. However, Gunn clearly is a filmmaker that I will not be focusing on for the future.
