Got through it in a couple days. It is intriguing enough. If you compare everything to your favorite family goes bad shows then it ranks somewhere in the middle. It's not going to blow anyone away but it has good actors and it is worth it just for Maria Bello who plays the matriarch. She has come a long way from Coyote Ugly but I have enjoyed her in the last few projects i have seen her in. The story has a few good twists and I do hope it has a second season. This is not really a show that it going to wow anyone but it is an easy watch and most of the characters are interesting enough and the ending does leave you wanting more. I would put it somewhere between a 6 and 8 depending on your mood and proclivity for dysfunctional criminal families.
I wasn't expecting much when I saw this on Netflix. It sounded like a fun premise so I decided to give it a chance and it turned out to be a pretty fun revenge fantasy show. It had its problems but most of these shows do. But the idea itself of a boarding school for the children of wealthy criminals, psychopaths and king makers that is ruled not by teachers or deans but by a students ability to gamble for real life stakes is an interesting enough concept and to be honest the show is at its best when it plays out the games between the main character and her current opponent. The show falters a bit with the personal stuff but it is necessary to move certain plots forward. All in all it won't win any awards but the show is worth the gamble.
I wasn't a big fan of the movies so I wasn't really expecting much from the series. By the time the second season ended the show really found itself and it became what it remained for the rest of the series. Two middle aged fathers who inadvertently start a gang war....but with karate. What I did appreciate most was that it never forgot that it was ultimately Johnny's story and the story of Miguel and Tory. Even when they took the wrong path they were ultimately the heroes of the story and the show resisted making Daniel and his family the good guys while making Cobra Kai the villains which it could have easily done. This is ultimately a teen drama so the romance aspects often overpower it but it is still a good show that has a good ending. Even if you didn't like or even watch the 80s movies this is still worth a look.
