I have no idea why this show has so few reviews, this is such a pioneering show! Before Chappelle, before Key and Peele, This show was on HBO in 1997. And it has 5 seasons! The musical guests are awesome and varied, the skits are really funny, the interviews on the street are very insightful, and everything is no holds barred - lots of race humor and sex talk. But its all smart and tasteful. One one episode he tries to get a petition signed to change the name of a street to Tupac Avenue or something, and he convinces people to sign it! Chris Rock just has that appeal to everyone, it is so fun to watch. This needs to be widely seen by everyone - let's make HBO bring it back into rotation.
The skits don't really land, they're mediocre. The comedy is sub-par compared to other shows that are similar ex: Chappelle Show, In Living Color, even Mind of Mencia. The First episode started off with a good segment about getting a petition signed for 2pac Blvd, then the interview segment that followed, got boring fast and it fell off a cliff, the many episodes after, all got boring and there wasn't many memorable or quotable moments. This show having a total of 5 seasons, I tapped out after only season 2. He had some good guest performances like D'Angelo, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Rakim & more. Those guests were the best part of the show. I would opt out of viewing this show for the other similar shows mentioned earlier in this review.
Chris Rock has made himself a good show with The Chris Rock Show. He brings funny and insightful sketch comedy, cool interviews, and many other things all at the hands of the comedian and host Chris Rock. Inventive and ingenious, this is one of the best you can find in Late Night Television.
This is the best late-night show since Arsenio. I believe he had him as a guest one time or another. But anyway there's no other talk show that tell it like he sees it like Chris Rock. That's what I love about the brother he's real. He doesn't sugar coat anything, if he thinks your movie stinks he tell you. If a woman is invited on his show and appears sexy to him he will not bite his tongue. It may seem offensive but he does it in such a way that it's hilarious. Keep rockin' them Chris.
