Avis à la une
I just finished watching this movie and felt I should write a comment about it, which I've never done before. For much of this movie I was literally rolling on the floor laughing. Once or twice I noticed something that didn't makes sense, like in one scene the main characters steal a police car and start it without having keys. But a few seconds later they would do something so funny I just forgot all about it. I would recommend this farce to any of my friends, in fact I'm going to go do that right now.
Willard Fillmore (Norm Macdonald) is a life long butler to the pie mogul Miss Crock (Elaine Stritch). She works him like a dog, treats him like crap, and pays him peanuts. After one insult too many, Willard, with his friend Rusty (Dave Chappelle), decides to kidnap Miss Crock's dog Muffin and hold it for a million dollar ransom. The kidnapping went horribly wrong and the dog got away. Due to the botched kidnapping, Miss Crock thought that Willard had been kidnapped. Willard and Rusty decided to run with that scenario and increased the ransom to $5M. Things didn't go according to plan.
Dave Chappelle and Norm Macdonald together can only mean maximum silliness. The plot was actually not bad, the execution however, needed some work. There were some very funny moments while most of the movie was just mildly humorous. It's an easy carefree movie to sit back and watch at any time; no proper mood necessary.

Screwed really didn't start off all that promising. The two lead characters kidnap a dog in a scene that played out kind of like a 'Something About Mary' ripoff screne (where dog attacks character) and things didn't really get much better from there at first. However, about 30 minutes into the movie as I was about to give up on it, things really started to pick up and it had me entertained, only to be let down somewhat by the ending. This definitely is along the lines of a 'stupid' comedy and nothing intellectual about it, but I still found it very funny in parts (especially Dave Chappelle and the second desk lamp scene). The two lead characters are so stupid and the plot itself has so many holes in it, but I think in the end, these two factors work in favor of the movie. I would recommend this as a rental, but only if you enjoy these types of comedies .. and stay with it until at least 30 minutes into the movie!
Just like Norm McDonald's last comedy, don't expect anything complex or high-brow. But expect tons of laughs! I was laughing from beginning to end! And Norm is assisted by Dave Chapelle, another one who's talented at his craft. There's no artistic merit to thoroughly discuss. All I have to say is it was funny, and I don't want to give away why it was funny. Just go see it! You won't get "screwed" like some smart-alecky people claim.
Decent watch, would watch again, and can recommend.
Top comedians of their time (and probably still now), Norm MacDonald, Dave Chapelle and Danny Devito do a funny job on this movie.
Despite the stuffy older characters, these guys play an idiot's gambit really well, failing upward for comedy silver (at least).
Danny Devito is basically an insane person and I think this movie is a great example of some the range he has.
For a comedy like this, the best thing you can read is that you're going to laugh.
The story is a little stupid, but it works for the comedy's sake.

- AnecdotesDanny DeVito said in an interview that he did this film purely for the money.
- GaffesWhen Willard and Rusty are being shot at by Grover in the police car, he shoots bullet holes in the hood, then the holes go away and he shoots new ones in again in a different shot.
