Toilet Paper

Very good but maybe not as original and funny as the first two episodes of seven seven, in my opinion. Officer Barbrady plays a major role which is rare. My rating is 8 or 8.5

Being a movie buff, this episode is comedic gold in parodying several classic gangster flicks, despite not being a fan of that genre. The episode keeps the fresh jokes coming at a consistent rate and it doesn't cheat it's way out with its gags by simply recycling past material, and the pop culture references are smart and full of wit, whether it would be a fake Silence Of The Lambs prisoner voice or a death attempt with a whiffle bat on a boat ride from Godfather Part II, it's an uproarious hoot from start to finish. Another thing that can be applauded from the writing of "Toilet Paper" is the positive message- you wouldn't expect such a thing from a TV-MA rated cartoon show, but it's in here and it's surprisingly well done without being too forced or thrown in on the spot, and it flows naturally through the runtime of the episode due to its justification. Bottom line: if any South Park episode were to win an award of some sort, it's "Toilet Paper", because out of all the episodes of the show I've seen, this has to have the best writing, best comedic timing, best script, and the best storytelling. All gags come with such sharpness and wit, and much of the screenplay is crisp and clever, which makes "Toilet Paper" my favorite South Park episode to date.

I first saw part the episode on "The Godfather" DVD set which contained a documentary on parodies, this being one of Coppola's favorites, and absolutely LOVED it.

When I saw the entire thing, I LOVED IT EVEN MORE!!!!! The boat scenes, the Hannibal parody, and everything else is wonderful. I felt even without the "Silence of the Lambs" and "The Godfather: Part II" (it mimics Alfredo's death for those who do not get it) bits, it still would have been good. Surprisingly, this is one of the less offensive episodes, but still packs a WONDERFUL wallop. Cartman is relatively subdued, but just as maniacal, and his actions at the end make this one of his best, and most hypocritical, moments.

Any decent fan of South Park will get a kick out of this episode, and for those who saw it on the "Godfather" DVD will certainly make an offer they can't refuse when seeing it.

Toilet Paper has the boys getting an after school detention for sculpting a penis in art class instead of doing actual work.They decide to get revenge by TPing(covering with toilet paper) the art teachers house.Afterwords the boys have to try and not get into trouble, but Kyle feels guilty.Cartman tries to make sure that Kyle does not tell anyone and in a humorous spoof of Godfather Part II, he tries to kill Kyle with a wiffle ball bat.Meanwhile, Officer Barbrady is trying to find out who toilet paper'd the teachers house and asks for the aid of a young criminal mastermind TPer(he is a spoof of the Hannibal character in Silence Of The Lambs and other hannibal movies).This is a pretty good episode with some fairly funny moments.

From time to time I escape to South Park. Sometimes they are brilliant. But It seems that they only became so after many years and they decided to focus more on big stuff. These early ones are a whole different beast, still self-absorbed in the nature of what they are and not yet prepared to fully take on the world.

I don't know when the threshold was reached where these things changed from being a collection of inside jokes only to full Jonathan Swift level satire and even battles with stupidity and evil.

But it was well after this.
