Kate Hudson in La Meneuse (2025)

La Meneuse

Refreshing, fun and witty

This show is a great pick me up amidst stressful times. It's actually quite funny, witty, great acting and lighthearted. Mindy Kaling keeps killing it with her shows. A little on the predictable side but very coherent and executed well enough. I rarely binge but this show doesn't drag and is easily watchable, good enough cliffhangers per episode. Really hope Netflix doesn't drop this one. Love the resurgence of Brenda Song too.

Need to fill up the minimum required characters, so just going to mention how I love Mindy Kaling's humor here - she isn't afraid to throw out bold jokes that never feels too insensitive.

Good one

Liked it. Didn't expect to, but I did actually. Binged it in about three separate sessions. I tried it for Kate Hudson cause I saw her on Graham Norton talking about it and I thought I'd give it a try. It is surprisingly entertaining and doesn't feel forced and unnatural. Which is quite rare for most comedy series these days. Very few good ones and even fewer on Netflix sadly.

I liked the character dynamics and the twisted relationships and here and there you can even find a little bit of depth. I hope they don't mess it up in the next season.

Got me watching a sports series so that's something...

Funny and enjoyable

Very funny. I'm not really a sports fan, but this series is great and funny. It's funny in a way similar to Ted Lasso. Where the lead is a descent person, with flaws. It's not a bunch of a-holes being jerks and us laughing at them being jerks, but there is an undercurrent of humanity, something desperately needed in today's world.

Not sure what else to say in order for the IMDB base limit. Guess I'll just say it is worth the time, plus each episode is is less than a half hour so very little risk or time for you to view. If they can maintain the vibe they have it should be a hit for a while. That's it.

Netflix's version of Ted Lasso

Running Point draws clear parallels to Ted Lasso, placing Kate Hudson's Isla Gordon, a socialite turned team owner, in a similar fish-out-of-water scenario. While the show delivers consistent humor and a feel-good vibe, it doesn't quite match Ted Lasso's emotional depth-BUT, it's still a great show. Supporting characters, are good and played by really funny actors. Altogether, the exploration of family dynamics and leadership challenges has some relatable moments. It's an enjoyable, lighthearted watch, and I give it a 8/10 for easily engaging entertainment. Basically, it's a solid, undemanding binge. You'll probably chuckle, and it's perfect for when you just want to switch off your brain for a few hours.

A poor man's Ted Lasso

I give Running Point credit for being relatively entertaining and not getting overly mushy, however, it's painfully obvious that the pitch for this show was "what if we combine Ted Lasso with and HBO's Winning Time." I've come to terms with the fact that there is no originality left in Hollywood and this show is a great example of that. It does have plenty of funny moments, but there isn't much depth going on here. The writing is pretty mid tier and littered with the typical talking points that has plagued television and film over the past decade. The same virtue signaling that has sunk Disney. Overall, I'd say it's worth a watch if you have a day to waste, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Girl Boss Comedy- Exceeded my Expectations!!!

Ok first of all, I would like to say I was home sick and needed something to watch. Saw that it just premiered today and that Kate Hudson had the leading role so I gave it a shot ( No pun intended) . I'm personally not a big fan of basketball at all, I am diehard football fan but this show was fantastic. Three hours later I've binged almost the entire series and couldn't stop. Watching back to back episodes without pause, while keeping my interest hasn't happened in a long time!!! It's the Perfect combination of comedy, drama, love, sports and GIRL BOSS! Believable plot lines, with a heartwarming story. I can't see how anyone could not enjoy this series!!!!!

don't have to be a hoops fan to enjoy it.

When her drug addicted brother ends up in the hospital, isla (kate hudson) steps in as president of the pro basketball team. Each family member has some quirk, illness, or just some personal issue going on in their life. According to the trivia, this ten episode show is loosely based on the actual owner of the los angeles lakers. Various creators, directors, writers. The story gets even more complicated when someone they didn't even know about pops us to claim part of the inheritance. It's surprisingly good. And pay attention... every now and then, there's a reference to films that kate's mom (goldie hawn) has made. Currently showing on netflix. It does wrap up pretty neatly in episode ten. But of course, they also left it open for more seasons.

Binged the whole season in one afternoon!

Loved it - definitely needs a season 2!

I didn't expect much when I started as being from the UK basketball is not something I really understand but I loved this show! Fell in love with the Gordon family! Fell in love with the players! Loved every episode - it hit all points I wanted - comedy, drama, love and with a female boss fighting for her team in a very male environment, it was perfect and exceeded my expectation of the show.

Having binged the whole season in one afternoon, I really hope Netflix doesn't do the standard drop an awesome show after just 1 season and picks up Running Point for a season2!!!

Overly bloated but harmless

There is way too much that could have been cut out and made for a more organic storytelling. It kind of fluctuates between sitcom and heartfelt drama with being neither of them.

Acting from Hudson and Song is very campy and self absorbed but it kind of works because of the nature of the program. The others are from ok to completely forgettable.

Writing seems to be all over the place wanting to cram too much into 20min runtime. At times it falls into a bit preachy category but still not too much to be completely annoying. It lost its steam way too quickly.

Frankly, I wouldn't care for another season. I might watch it if there was, but wouldn't count the days.

Finally a netflix show that is worth it!

I binged the whole season within one night and the next morning. Kate Hudson is great in her role. I enjoyed her acting skills so much like I did in all of these great romantic comedies in the 2000nds. It is great to see her comeback. The show has many great elements: the family dynamics, a lttle bit of comedy and some drama within. The storyline build up great and I have not expected the ending. I hope Netflix will produce a second season instead of producing more of this useless and boring romcoms with actors like Lindsay Lohan.

In addition, Kate Hudson is still so beautiful with some wrinkles now. She doesnt need plastic surgery like actor actresses.

Has so much potential, but delivers here and there.

So Running Points a new half hour comedy on Netflix presented by Mindy Kailing and co.

Running Points is fictional satire series seemingly based the family of this Dr. Jess Buss family, who owns the famed Los Angeles Lakers. The show stars Kate Hudson as a satirical and fictional Isla Gordon, based ostensibly on Jeanie Buss, much in the same way that the HBO Series Entourage's Vinny Chase was LOOSELY based on the early acting career of Marky Mark Wahlberg.

The glaring difference is that Running Points being a somewhat "Grrl Power" show displays signals that the instincts of the writers are to portray all men as adolescent and hapless nincompoops before banking a turn out of that motif barely in time, but it's there. To be clear, I don't have a problem with the overtly feminist tone nearly as much as I at times was dismayed by the repugnant toxic masculinity sometimes on display in Entourage. The writing here so far is pretty solid and hey! This is actually a show that acknowledges the fact that the Covid 19 Pandemic occurred, unlike many modern series and films that at most vaguely reference "Oh hey those few years were weird....." if not ignore the phenomenon wholesale.

While Kate Hudson delivers a great performance, the glaring transgression of this show is that they completely betray and forsake the best performance and character of the show, Justin Theroux. The actor is giving a huge performance in a HUGE character actor role and yet they all but disavow him in an egregious yet baffling way.

All things being equal, this show is at worst utterly watchable to laughing out loud funny. The snappy pacing and half hour format lend to this being completely binge-able in a single evening with ease.

Binged the whole season

First of all Thank you to Netflix for putting the whole season out. You can keep the flow of the story going and what a story. In the trivia section it says it was based on Jeanie Buss's experience. I wonder how close it was to her story? Kate Hudson is cast perfectly for this role. Brenda Song is a hilarious sidekick. Mindy Kaling is so talented to bring all this together. The writing is superb, the editing keeps the story flowing. It was so fun to watch. I loved everything about this. Very very entertaining. This one hit a bullseye Netflix. The door is open for season 2 and we can't wait to see the story continue.

Funny and likable

Kate Hudson leads a strong cast in this entertaining sitcom from Mindy Kaling about a woman who suddenly finds herself in charge of her family's basketball team.

Hudson tasks risks, some pay off, some don't. People have doubts, but she pushes through. The family squabbles, but eventually they hug.

None of this is especially original, and honestly, absolutely nothing is surprising. If you think something is going to happen in this series, yes, it will happen, just as you thought it would.

But while it's far from edgy, it is just a really funny, really solid, genuinely likable show. Check it out!

Not terrible, not great

If Netflix hadn't paid a social media company to submit about two hundred 10 rated reviews on here the true rating would reflect about a four...... which is exactly were it should fall. No better or worse than that. It is well made, production values are high, and I gave it an extra point due to the standout performances by Brenda Song and, in kind of a genius casting move, super douchy Chet Hanks basically playing himself (one wonders if he is smart enough to recognize the self parody)..... although casting a 5'8 thickly built white dude as a star NBA player required a bit of suspension of disbelief. Also, to Kate Hudson; For the love of all that is holy; stop injecting crap into your face. You are beautiful and you don't need it. Learn from your Mom's mistakes and age naturally.

it was so good

This show is just a perfect example of how women are treated in a male dominated industry. I like how they showed all the prejudices that men have against women who like sports.

Kate was amazing in her role, i really liked her character. Other actors were also good, i liked the chemistry between basketball players and their relationship.

I also like how some things were done in the last episode, I'm not a big fan of the ending but it was expected in some way.

I hope we get a second season because there are still a lot of unresolved issues and because I want to see more of Isla in a male-dominated world of sports.

Good

I thought the show was good, but if you don't like hearing the f word every other breath or cussing every other word then I would bypass this show! I was not expecting all the cussing, i thought it would get better as it went on but it didn't and that was the only thing I did not care for about the show, I feel like all the cussing was just really unnecessary and not needed! But if you put all the cussing aside it was good and I do recommend the show! I loved all the characters, I think they did a fantastic job with character development! I think if you love basketball you would love the show a lot!

Really great comedy show

Other reviews are right it's nothing new, but there's just something about it I really enjoyed. Another women trying to show she's as good as the guys kinda thing and 'prove herself in business' but it doesn't ever come across as cliche or an imitation of anything. It's great it's centered around sports. The cast as an ensemble have a really good dinamic. It's also nice that I don't recognize a lot of the cast apart from Kate and her fiance (my other half mentioned someone was in a kid's show but he's younger than me so it was not in my era of growing up). I await season 2 to hopefully get greenlit.

Mindy...

I can't unhear all of Kate's lines in Mindy Kaling's voice. It's as if Kate is role playing Mindy Kaling. This must be true for anyone who has seen The Mindy Project. Isla Gordon is even similar to Kelly Kapoor in some ways.

I wish Mindy could have just played this part herself but I realize being white is important to this character specifically. Also, I wish Ike could have just played the brother that looks like his twin.

With all of this being said, the writing is great. It is very much in Mindy and Ike's voices(big fan of both). I just feel I've seen these characters in their previous work before. It's great! Just not new.

Fun

The show was what you'd expect - not that deep, but fun and entertaining. It's far from the funniest thing I've ever seen, but it had some good jokes. The plot is rather predictable, but the premise was a little different from most newer sitcoms and I'd watch another season of this.

Imo the cast worked well together. The characters were slightly standard/cliche, but not super boring or way too shallow and I could see some fun storylines being introduced in the second season. Islas and Alis outfits we're quite cute. Isla somehow reminded me of Kate Hudsons character in Glass Onion. Also I'm very much here for the Brenda Song Renaissance and looking forward to hopefully seeing her in more projects again!

Very enjoyable

I did not know about this show until I saw it trending at number 1 on my Netflix account just 3 days ago. So I got curious on the plot of the show. I am not into sports so I could careless but the plot of the show did get me curious after watching the trailer on youtube. I love Kate Hudson in this show. She is so funny and wow a few times in this season she kept getting hurt with the physical comedy part. Also Brenda Song I did not know she was still acting but I am so happy that she is in this show. She really knows how to make you laugh in all the different scenes that she is in. So gonna admit that this is a really good show.

Much better than expected.

I really didn't think I'd like this, not sure how I feel about Kate Hudson, but for whatever reason I'm very engaged in it. I'm not even a sports person. Somehow it's just done really well. There's slapstick comedy but also a good amount of depth and you really care about the characters.

I'm also interested in the story as it relates to Jeanie Buss. Her story is interesting to me.

And of course, if you love basketball, this will be of interest to you. It was inspired by Jeanie's story with the Lakers.

The first show in a while that I actually didn't wanna turn off because I wanted to see what was going to happen next.

Passable but more dramatic than comedic

Apparently some have compared this series to Ted Lasso. However this deals with a professional basketball team and league. The premise made it seem like it would be a watchable laid back comedy, and to start the show was that way. However as we continue watching, the series tend to lean more on a few serious issues and dramatic occurrences, such as of course family dynamics, drug rehab players, cheating scandals, diseases and such. It doesn't get too serious as there are still a relatively light hearted atmosphere but the content is certainly slightly heavy. Also a lot more cursing than expected.

Kate Hudson does solid work as the newly independent put-in charge owner and we see growth. The oldest brother played by Justin Theroux is more of a minor supporting role where his credit is simply an "and". It certainly seemed like he would be one of the leads.

The second older brother Ness is the most likeable while the younger brother of Sandy is easily the least likeable, and comes across as self centered in several episodes. The episodes where we he has the main subplots are the weakest. Then the youngest and newest half-brother (whom it turns out the other siblings were unaware of) tends to have his moments.

The show is certainly passable and it's interesting enough but the comedy is either trying too hard or just silly and generic. Nothing is really humorous. After the cliffhanger ending at the very last scene of season one, there will certainly be a second season. And we expect Theroux to be more focused.

This is soo good!

And the crowd goes WILD!!! Wow such a fun and refreshing watch. It's great rooting for characters you can actually like -vs- a lot of shows with despicable characters. The pace was great, the set ups were fun (yes some moments predictable but we can forgive that) and the cast has chemistry together especially the pool fight scene which was a blast. Kate Hudson has a great team to play with. Looking forward to season 2. And yes many people are going to compare the show to Ted Lasso but that's ok both shows can share a universe. I binged the entire season just like I did with Nobody Wants This. I love that these strong female driven shows are doing so well in the past ensemble shows were lead by men but this is a new Era on TV and I hope it continues.

Watchable

This is not peak comedy but it delivers enough laughs to make it fairly good. The trailer implies it will be whole "girl boss" vs "boys club", but that's not central theme. Sure, it's there and our heroine sometimes struggles to be taken seriously, but it's more often due to her past and having no leadership experience than due to misogyny.

And even if you are not a basketball fan you can still enjoy it. Sure, some stuff is industry specific and you might not quite get it, but it's not plot breaking if you don't.

And there are enough colourful characters to go around and clashes of personalities make for fun watching. It's probably not a series you'll keep rewatching but you won't feel like you've wasted your time either.

Temu Ted Lasso

It's as if they inserted a prompt to Chat GPT and came up with this Mad Libs script. The series has a lot of potential, but the wailing script, the under developed characters, and cheap atmosphere are truly peak Netflix. You could tell it was a Netflix show, even if the logo wasn't displayed. I'm a big fan of multiple actors within this series, and I believe that I enjoy Mindy Kaling's previous shows? But this has me questioning both accounts now. I truly wanted to like it. And found myself watching it with more of a hate watch? Really under developed and a lack of charm. Kate's fake cry in episode 9 really sealed the deal. She wiped away non-existent tears. I like a good Hallmark movie, and this fits into a similar vein. I just am shocked that the reviews are this good? It is NOT Ted Lasso. The writer's room clearly tried to emulate that. But, to quote another sport, it's a swing and a miss.
