There is not much I wanna say, My Rating is 6.5/10... This movie is not something very Extraordinary but a Good Movie I Can say. One of the best things was its background score which will make you feel the gravity of the scenes. Also, Camera Work is great. This Movie could be better if it wasn't lazy... Laziness is the biggest flaw of this movie in my opinion... CGI was like, acceptable for me but AI videos.... I was seriously Irritated because of those Ai scenes, There is a full sequence which was made by AI and it disappoints... and Another Flaw is Set Pieces, which looked very, very artificial... Now Talking about Horror, this movie had jump scares, and many spooky moments... TBH, I wasn't really much affected by jump scares or any other cinephile will not be much affected, but still I can't complain much about it because I saw the effort they made on the Horror element! Now, What's the best Thing I saw in this movie was using mythology to set up its plot which was not much greater but also not bad... it was good, I liked It... Overall, this is a good watch but not something extraordinary, obviously better than most of the SO CALLED HORROR MOVIES OF BOLLYWOOD.
Vishal Furia's "Maa," starring Kajol in her first full-fledged horror outing, attempts to blend mythological horror with a potent tale of a mother's fierce love. While the premise is intriguing, and Kajol delivers a spirited performance, the film struggles to maintain a consistent tone and often falls prey to genre cliches, leaving it more muddled than truly terrifying.
The film's ambition often outweighs its execution. The narrative, while rooted in compelling mythology, becomes predictable. The demon, despite ample screentime, fails to evoke genuine terror, often resembling more of a mid-budget CGI creation than a truly menacing entity. The writing is a significant weakness; despite tackling powerful themes of patriarchy and female strength, the script feels bland and repetitive in parts, losing its grip, particularly in the muddled second half and climax extremely disappointing. Better to watch on ott rather than going theatres.
The film's connection to the "Shaitaan" universe is present but doesn't necessarily elevate "Maa" in a significant way. While it aims for a compelling horror experience with a beating heart of maternal love, the inconsistent pacing, reliance on conventional horror tropes, and a surprisingly weak emotional core prevent "Maa" from reaching its full potential.

A Decent One-Time Watch, But Not deserve a Theater Visit!!
Abstract: As with most horror films, this one follows a tried-and-tested formula to make a good to go horror movie. Plot grows in a Bengali village develops around a mythological belief related to Maa Kali.
Sounds: As with most horror films relies heavily on sound to deliver scares. While the atmosphere builds tension, it often feels predictable. The sound effects-though intense-are sometimes overdone. You can anticipate the audio spikes in key moments, but the execution can be jarring enough to hurt your ears. It adds to the horror in places but lacks subtlety.
Dialogues: The dialogue delivery is a bit chaotic. A Bengali family unexpectedly switches between Bengali and Hindi when conversing among themselves, yet speaks sometimes in Bengali when addressing Kajol's character. This inconsistency in language use breaks the immersion and feels confusing at times. The lack of a clear linguistic pattern disrupts the authenticity of the familial bond onscreen.
Music: Nothing remarkable here. The inclusion of old songs feels like an attempt to trigger nostalgia, but it doesn't integrate well with the film's mood. The new songs are forgettable and appear to be added simply to extend the runtime rather than enhance the story. They serve more as fillers than meaningful elements.
Acting: 1. Kajol: Kajol delivers a compelling performance. She practically carries the film on her shoulders, adding depth and emotional gravity even when the plot falters.
2. Ronit Roy: Ronit Roy gives a decent performance, but his character-presumably the second lead-lacks the commanding presence needed to support Kajol. His Bengali accent, unfortunately, is less convincing than hers.
3. Indraneil Sengupta: Makes a mark despite limited screen time. His performance is subtle but effective.
4. Surjyasikha Das: stands out in her moments, showing potential for bigger roles.
5. Gopal Singh: Gave a decent performance.
6. Vibha Rani: deliver steady performances, holding their own in supporting roles.
7. Dibyendu Bhattacharya: though in a minor role, is particularly impressive with his nuanced performance.
VFX and CGI: The visual effects are surprisingly good. While some scenes look slightly messy, the overall quality is commendable-especially considering the film's budget and Indian cinema's evolving standards. The CGI enhances the horror sequences without going overboard.
Action: Though this isn't an action-heavy film, the sequences that do exist are passable. In some scenes, the action feels unnecessarily prolonged or exaggerated, disrupting the horror tone. When used in moderation, however, it complements the narrative.
Overall it is a family watchable movie on tv. Visit theaters with family or wait 42 days for Ott release.

This movie is dull and slow. The story is very basic and doesn't have anything new or exciting. It feels like it was just put together without much thought. The main cast seems to have been picked based on popularity, not actual acting talent.
Kajol, in particular, looks outdated and shows very little range in her acting. In the past, her weak performances were easy to overlook because stronger male actors carried the films. But in this movie, her limitations are very clear.
Surprisingly, the extras and background actors do a much better job. They feel more real and help move the story along more than the leads do. There are also some truly talented actors in the film, but their roles are so small that their skills go to waste.
The pace of the movie is another big issue-it drags on and on. It takes forever for anything meaningful to happen. Overall, this movie is a missed opportunity and a disappointment.

Movie Review: Maa screening in cinema halls near you!!
Touted as the 2nd film in Ajay Devgan's Shaitaan universe, Maa is a mytho-horror film starring Kajol, Indraneil Sengupta & Ronit Roy among the known faces in bollywood.
Set in the village of Chandrapur somewhere near Kolkata, it tells the story of Kajol , a mother battling supernatural forces to save her daughter!!
If u compare this film with Shaitaan u might find it a bit underwhelming. Though it has its jumpscare moments great editing, cinematography, BGM , the antagonist created with special effects seems somewhat like Groot who isn't half as scary as R Madhavan in Shaitaan. Special effects too are mediocre at the start though there are some great scenes towards the climax. The dull dark ambience definitely creates a feeling of unease that is apt for a movie of this genre.. great work there!!
It is Kajol's film all the way and she really gives it her all .. a restrained performance from her with no hamming or over the top scenes. Ronit Roy too has done well in his small yet impactful role.
The film is a mish-mash of Chhori, Stree and Shaitaan, yet failing to create the shock value seen in all the 3 films above.
A decent one time watch , not bad at all , but cudve been better!! Good production value overall!!
Going with 3/5 for this one .. adios 😊!!
