Manhunter is a movie perhaps most known as the movie that came before Silence of the Lambs. Silence of the Lambs is a masterpiece, but also made in another time with other possibilities. Some characters have the same name, but that's about it in terms of connections. Hence, any comparison is pointless.
That said, I didn't expect much, overshadowed as it is by it's sequel. But what positive surprise it was. Manhunter is a really good thriller. Slows down in the right places, let's uncertainties grow, let's details get the attention they need to let Graham slowly put the pieces together. And a few moments of full brutality, all the more effective by the contrast.
I liked the actor's performances as well, they were mostly in tune with the story.
It is a bit eighties in style (colours, music etc) but what movie isn't affected by it's time-period...
