On 12 May 2006, ITV announced that the third series was the last, due to savings. Two stories were in preparation for shooting in Portugal when the ITV Network Centre decided to cancel plans for a fourth series. Carnival hopes that the show might someday be picked up again by another channel.
Rosemary Boxer, in the episode The Cup of Silence, is wearing a necklace adorned with an American quarter.
In 2008, Pam Ferris (Laura Thyme) addressed the shows cancellation: "I certainly was sad when I found out. I miss working with Felicity more than anything - we became good friends. We still see each other regularly. Our viewing figures were good and our repeat viewing figures were good too, although I like to joke with Felicity that the reason for that was because our viewers are so 'ancient' they don't remember seeing the episode the first time round".
The role required Felicity Kendal (Rosemary) to get behind the wheel of a battered Land Rover, which turned out to be "a temperamental thing with the old-fashioned gear change". She found it a nightmare to drive but was really proud of the way she and Pam Ferris mastered it. Kendal said: "These big men would get in and try to manoeuvre it between takes and would crash the gears. Then Pam and I got in and knew how to drive it".
