I don't know what these bad reviews are on about. I thought the emotional impact with Willows was really well done. As someone who as seen what being distant with mom can be like & how she reacts, Marg did an excellent job portraying that, I almost called my mom. I was definitely choked up at the end. I also found it cool that they got the same actress back who played Lindsay in the immortality movie back 7 years ago. Anyways I thought the acting was great with everyone, I'm also looking forward to spending more time with Penny more throughout the series. She brings quite a charm to her character.
This episode wasn't too bad. That is until about 27 minutes in, that's when Paula Newsome first made an appearance. Her character is just horrible! She seems to know everything! When. Catherine Wilows goes to get a DNA swab from a baby... No can do. But Paula Newsome's character can just walk right into the nursery at the hospital and get the DNA swab. No warrant or anything, just uses her "sister" influence I guess? Then Paula spots Catherine at work and notices that something is bothering Catherine. She knows everything! It's like she's superwoman or something. Poorly written character. Her acting is atrocious as well.
This episode started out very strong and disturbing in the old way that CSI would. I like how Catherine guide her team through this difficult crime scene especially with Penny. The problem with the episodes for me started with Catherine's daughter seems to be taking on the same storyline like Captain Jim Brass and his daughter. Catherine's daughter is not a hooker but she seems to be a cam girl/onlyfans model with a fractured relationship between her and Catherine. I just don't like that recycle storyline. The killers revealed and reasoning was pretty underwhelming. The way how Catherine dealt with the killer at the end was so unrealistic TV melodrama nonsense.
This batch of writers are No where near the knowledge base of CSI past. They need to at least ask their consultants about the science. This show was founded in the forensic science details that made the case. Each episode was actually high in potential to teach you something about the science.
(The brand of a shotgun shell is imprinted in the brass. There is NO ballistic test to match a shotgun shell to a gun or owner.)
This was just one of a few things the previous crew would have researched just a little more and absolutely not the only lacking detail in This episode.
Sure, it's just a TV show, but I rather enjoyed the fact that they use to care about the detail.

Like a previous reviewer, I am also perplexed by these really bad reviews. This Episode was so emotional and compelling, throughout the WHOLE epi. It resonated and made one THINK of similar feelings as felt by Marg and the other CSIs and even makes you feel a kind of sympathy at the end for the protagonist. Also excellent acting all around. I feel like the negative reviewers are leaving the WRONG impression about this Excellent epi. I HIGHLY reccomnd this episode, Forget the Naysayers. They do not know what they are talking about. This episode is a straight up 10 stars out of 10 in my book! 10 out of 10!!

- गूफ़Joshua says that the DNA from a killer's tooth shares an allele (a variant of a gene) with the new-born infant and concludes that the killer is female and the mother of the infant. This is nonsense. One single allele could be shared by millions of people. Identifying someone (or family relationships) requires the two DNA samples to have many alleles in common. Also, a single allele could not determine biological sex.
