- EPISODE 1 - MATAURANGA - EDUCATION In this episode we address the ways in which Aotearoa's education system has failed tangata Turi, and the dissociation they feel as a result; also how Ruaumoko Marae, despite being the Turi community's own marae, has become so hearing-centric that often the marae doors feel closed to tangata Turi. EPISODE 2 - NGA KAIWHAKAWHITI REO - INTERPRETERS This episode looks at the urgent need for trilingual interpreters, who can translate between NZSL, Te Reo Maori and English. A discussion around the lack of qualified interpreters takes place against the backdrop of Waitangi Day, leading to a discussion about the disenfranchisement of tangata Turi within current hui and protests, due to a lack of language access. EPISODE 3 - WAHINE The focus of this episode is Turi wahine: how they feel that they do or do not fit into the Turi community and Maori culture more broadly; the roles that they have been given or embraced for themselves; and their hopes and goals for the future. EPISODE 4 - NGA ARAITANGA - BARRIERS Societal barriers affect tangata Turi every day. This episode looks at how these barriers have arisen, and the impact that they have on Turi Maori. We ask what might be done to overcome these barriers, and how technology could be of assistance. EPISODE 5 - NGA HAERENGA - JOURNEYS In our final episode we look to the younger generations of tangata Turi, the pathways and choices they are making within and for their community, as well as their personal journeys.
