A severely shortened DVD and VHS videotape version, running only about 65 minutes, is presently being circulated among underground film dealers in both USA and Canada, who either ignore complaints from buyers, or else claim it's the USA release version. The USA release, as distributed by Twentieth Century-Fox in 1944, is the same length as the British version, 86 minutes.

The film bears a copyright statement of MCMXIII (1913), which is a typographical error; it should be MCMXLIII (1943).

According to star James Mason: "This film topped the popularity polls in Bulgaria one or more of the immediately post-war years. I, who saw the film, find this interesting."

The camera in Maritza's drawer is a Jaeger Le Coultre Compass, designed by Noel Pemberton-Billing and manufactured by Le Coultre, the Swiss watch-makers.

A perennial post-WWII favorite in the USA, this was still being shown theatrically as late as 1950. Its earliest documented telecast took place in Omaha Saturday 20 February 1954 on KMTV (Channel 3); its initial New York City telecast took place Saturday 3 July 1954 on the 11th Hour Theatre on WNBT (Channel 4).
