Carl Durant: [after Mike punches Brad in the nose for being a double-crosser] Drop it, Hammer! Drop it! Drop it. Should've known that you'd be here.
Mike Hammer: How is Boston, Carl?
Carl Durant: [as Brad gets back up] Shut up. I want the book.
Mike Hammer: You're not alone, pal.
Carl Durant: I'm serious, Hammer. Where's the book?
Mike Hammer: Why are you so interested in Johnny Roman's diary?
Carl Durant: Johnny Roman didn't have a diary. I'm talking about the account book.
Mike Hammer: Account book?
Carl Durant: Account book, yeah. Where's Helen? Helen!
[opens the cabin boat's explosive booby-trap door and screams to his death]

Brad Peters: Can I ask you a question?
Mike Hammer: Sure. Why not? You've been doing it since the day I met you.
Brad Peters: Do you think I'm funny?
Mike Hammer: I don't know, Brad. I may be the wrong guy to ask. I've haven't smiled in three days.
Brad Peters: The reason I asked is I've been thinking about changing careers. And I like working for Doctor Durant, but what I really want to do is be a comedian. I just don't know if I can make people laugh. That's all. You know.
Mike Hammer: You got a point.
Brad Peters: Want to hear a joke?
Mike Hammer: No, Brad. Stick with the comedy.
Brad Peters: You're not even good comfort. You know that?
Mike Hammer: Find you own desert, pal.
Brad Peters: I'm in a lot of trouble because of you. You know. I mean. What was I suppose to do? And why did you level with me? You're working for somebody, aren't you? That's right. You're being paid to get that book.
Mike Hammer: Maybe, I don't like it when people get murdered. I mean doesn't anybody do anything anymore without getting paid for it?
Brad Peters: Not in Las Vegas.

Mike Hammer: If Leora knew Bundy was cheating, why didn't the casino press charges?
Brad Peters: I don't know. What are you talking about?
Mike Hammer: Unless she didn't tell the casino about it. What do you know about Leora?
Brad Peters: Why are you so interested in Leora or shouldn't I ask?
Mike Hammer: Somebody was giving orders to Bundy last night. It could have been Leora. Unless it was you, Bradley.
Brad Peters: You know. I'm beginning to think that you don't like me.
Mike Hammer: You're still alive, aren't you? Let's go.
[he and Brad both step out of the car]
Brad Peters: [pointing at Bundy's ranch house and laying his right hand on a utility pole] Over there.
Mike Hammer: Come on.
[Brad walks to Bundy's ranch house with him afterwards]

Reggie Diaz: If I catch you outside this hotel again, you are dead!
Mike Hammer: Save it for the ring, pal.
Brad Peters: Wait! I've been looking all over for you. I was backstage last night recognizing that guy you were chasing. His name is Bundy.
Mike Hammer: Why didn't you tell me that before?
Brad Peters: I couldn't. Not with Amy around. I know him from his place I used to go to. The Rosy Buttes Ranch. He works there.
Mike Hammer: What is he? A cowboy?
Brad Peters: No, he's a bouncer.

Mike Hammer: [offscreen narration] Something else bothered me. When Helen Durant asked me to find the diary, there was a lot she didn't tell me. Maybe Johnny Roman was connected to this guy, Bundy. If he was, Helen might have some answers. I decided to give her a call and find out. Unfortunately, I got cut off.

Mike Hammer: [last lines, offscreen narration] It was good to be home. Unlike Las Vegas, New York is a city full of second chances. I don't need to leave town to gamble. In my line of work everyday, you're alive to beat the odds. One thing for sure, it was my lucky night.
