Blondes Have More Guns

First of all, the title is kind of misleading: yes, there are blondes in this movie, but they use guns approximately 1% of the running time (at the most). Unless the title refers to their others "assets", in which case it makes more sense. Anyway, this spoof of "Basic Instinct" (with such side targets as "Indecent Proposal", "Body Of Evidence" and "9 & 1/2 Weeks") is certainly not lazy - there's a visual or verbal gag every 10 seconds or so - but, unfortunately, only a small portion of these gags score; the first 10 minutes are the best, the last 10 minutes, in particular, degenerate into sloppy idiocy. For most of the people involved, this was their first and last film; one that I would have liked to see in more is former Miss California (or so the Troma DVD cover claims) Elizabeth Key, who is not only beautiful (though the nudity is provided by the other leading lady, Gloria Lusiak), but a pretty funny comedienne as well. *1/2 out of 4.

'Blondes have more guns' is an amusing, joke-a-minute ultra low budget comedy from the Troma stable, and while it definitely lacks the sheen (no pun intended) of similar comedy spoofs such as 'Hot Shots' there is still fun to be had here if you can forgive the nonexistent budget.

Direction by George Merriweather is passable (just), and while the jokes only work probably half the time at best the script does keep shooting them rapidfire one after the other so that you don't notice the ones that tank quite so much as you otherwise may have. Apart from that the script is the usual spoof material, a paper thin plot that just acts as an excuse to take the piss out of films like 'Basic Instinct', 'Lethal Weapon' et al.

If this film has one major flaw it's that even at 86 minutes it can't quite sustain it's length, and seems to run out of steam (and jokes) near the end, but then that same complaint is true for most films of this type.

Performance wise it's no great shakes either, however both Michael McGaharn and Elizabeth Key are pretty good in the lead roles of dumb cop on the case and prime suspect respectively, while Derek Yee, Ramona Lisa and Richard Neil all add to the fun with amusing performances.

In short this is goofy low budget fun, and if you don't mind that fact and like this type of film then you could do worse than to check this one out, however if your the type of person that needs their films to have a certain level of gloss to them then you'd best avoid this one (and the rest of Troma's films for that matter). Good, solid, campy low budget fun.

This is the very worst film I have ever seen in my life on all accounts. It is a series of continuous and abysmally stupid jokes. If it had a plot, I don't know what it was. It appeared that the guy who was writing it was trying to write an "Airplane" style film but tried too hard and with hackneyed lines. The cheesy "Under Sir Veillance" bit was about the highlight of the entire film. Then, on top of this inanity, add lots of gratuitous nudity which contributes nothing to the story except that the person making the film was probably getting off (it appeared the camera froze in a few chosen spots...like we have never seen those before!) The only funny thing aspect of this film is that it was even listed on here! I was shocked to find it. Okay,it is memorable but so is food poisoning. I was trying to think of the worst film I have ever seen and then looked it up! Haha! There it was! Think of the most boring home movie you have ever seen...then, divide the entertainment value in half. That is this film.

The movie starts out telling us: "This movie is altered! It is dubbed into Swahili!" (off course it is not)

Needless to say I laughed so much I almost cried seeing this scene the first time back in 1995. Well, the movie is pretty similar to "Silence of the hams"(1994). I found it almost as hilarious and strange. Both movies are made outside Hollywood, cheap and darn funny.

Some critics don`t like this movie, and they often tell us it looks to cheap or that it`s to campy. Well cheap and campy are both trademarks of Troma, and I really can not imagine a expensive Troma-movie made in Hollywood. But some critics seem to want this. Strange, since in my opinion Hollywood has not made a fun movie in 10-15 years. I mean comedy`s with CGI-effects. Made for more money then a small country uses on food for a year. That is just wrong and a good reason to stop watching the most expensive films from Hollywood and elsewhere.

I try my best not to judge movies based solely on others' reviews and in the case of Blondes Have More Guns, I've gotta say that I am so glad that I gave it a chance!

Anyone who knows TROMA films knows they're at their best when trying NOT to be taken seriously (while sprinkling true nuggets of social commentary here and there). The ridiculous is by far their forte and low budget or otherwise, this picture shows them doing what they do best.

If you're looking for something meaningful or deep, then my friend, you are barking up the wrong tree entirely and have no business watching any film from TROMA in the first place. If, however, you aim for some good (low-brow) humor then call some friends, crack a few beers and enjoy!
