Suspicion will destroy even the strongest and closest bonds of a person. I lost track of time while watching film and I was moved by the film, acting of the giants Rajesh Khanna and Sanjeev Kumar.
SRK and Salman's Hum tumare hain sanam is a remake of this film. I have seen that film, but I'll still put this film first and won't compare it with any.
This movie should be seen by everyone, especially married couples as the issue shown in it causes happy married lives to torn.
The plot is basically about how suspicion can ruin a marriage. The first half is breezy with romantic songs & lovely locales. The second half turns serious leading to a tragic & emotional climax.
Sanjeev kumar is very good though he has limited screen space. Mumtaz is bubbly & shares an excellent chemistry with kaka (as usual), specially in the "Jai Jai Shiva SHanker" song.
R.D Burman's songs are chartbusters photography is superb.
Now coming to the hero of the film - Rajesh khanna. He is charm personified in the romantic scenes & slowly transforms into a suspicious husband & then a repenting figure towards the end. Though the story is centered around Mumtaz, Kaka steals the show with a stupendous performance.
The scenes where he feels hurt when he requests Mumtaz to sing a song & she refuses, slapping sanjeev kumar with disgust on his face, apologizing to his father-in-law & finally his emotional dialogue & expressions in the climax are remarkable.
A film which will always remain a firm favorite for Rajesh khanna's fans.
Aap Ki Kasam is a very emotional story which alternately enraged me and then made me cheer, and it isn't one of those "happily ever after" films you sort of expect from 70s Bollywood. It highlights several of Rajesh Khanna's finer qualities: he picked unusual films and scripts-with unusual roles for a "hero"-and he didn't mind sharing screen space with equally adept actors like Sanjeev Kumar.
RD Burman's music is fabulous as well. I especially love the exuberant song "Jai Jai Shiv Shankar.
Sanjeev Kumar in this itsy bitsy role is absolutely wasted. They should have opted for someone else. Sanjeev Kumar is too good an actor for this small supporting role. The comic interludes starring Kesto Mukherjee should have been cut out. They eat into the narrative.
Rajesh Khanna exercises restraint as the jealous husband. Mumtaz is very good as Sunita. She looks a bit old in those westerns but in her performance she is top-notch. Especially when she lands a proverbial slap on Kamal's face by walking out on him, I feel like running and hugging her. Yes, her actions and expressions deserve an applause there...
