Lucy and John Wayne

We old kids were lucky to have grown up on I LOVE LUCY. A cool time killer. Insane material that inspired so many sitcoms, even to this day. Only debit, it's in black and white.

This famous episode has series creater Jess Oppenheimer's style all over it. Jess believed in total chaos, and here it is. I will also add the "Hollywood episodes" are the best ever, due to the classic movie stars. Case in point, John Wayne makes a guest appearance. What a DEAL MAKER.

If you're a fan of the show, you know it's all about Lucy and Ethel stealing Wayne's cement footprints (for a souvenir?) from Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The cement slab breaks into a million pieces and now they have to figure out a way to get him to re-cement his cowboy boot prints. What follows is like a page from a Three Stooges script. Did Oppenheimer follow the Stooges? You be the judge.

The acting is terrific, all hands on deck, and note William Frawley has some of the best lines. Fred gets the Stooge award. He worked with Wayne on the film, FLAME OF THE BARBERY COAST, about 10 years earlier.

Note, Oppenheimer may have gotten the whole idea from a real life incident. A few years earlier, Marilyn Monroe left her prints at Graumans and wanted to dot the "i" in her name with an earring. Needless to say, a die-hard fan stole the earring out of the cement. So Jess probably figured, why not have Lucy steal the WHOLE cement block?

I love seeing movie stars go on the show to have a good time. John is a trooper.
