Radio Free Trumaine

This episode was a lame pilot for a projected series about two smart aleck students running an off the wall college radio talk show. They run afoul of new college dean Steve (a returning David Garrison) which in turn brings spiteful former wife Marcy into the fray spouting free speech rights. Al, Peggy, Kelly and Jefferson are virtually non-existent here.

Bud is at the forefront romancing April who has broken up with none-too-bright tall hunky Russian college basketball star. You know who will win that contest. Bud's case for April is "accidentally" broadcast. Not a particularly good episode in lacking the familiar MWC style of humor.

The saving grace to watch again is a teenage Keri Russell playing April. She is gorgeous with her flowing wild mane of hair that she would later cut during "Felicity."

MWC is my favorite all time sitcom due to the stories surrounding Al. This episode was a poor attempt at capitalizing on snarky hip 90s teen slop. It's as if this episode was trying for some kind of "hey look at us cool guys talkin' about sex and relationships on the radio" type garbage. Wow, ain't we cool! Awful, just awful.

I love Married with Children, first 5 seasons were perfect! 6-8 were fine with still some exceptionally funny episodes. Season 9 dropped in quality and started with meek watered down episodes which were much less funny than before.

This episode is horrible! Even Steve appearing didn't do zilch to improve it.

Keri Russell at the time wasn't as good actress as she become later and her comedic timing is horrible. Unlike Christina Applegate who is hilarious, Keri isn't funny in this series at all. I didn't chuckle once.

No Al, no Peggy, no Kelly, just bad, bad, bad! And the fake laughter annoyed me this time more than before.

Having failed with spin-off show Vinnie and Bobby, the MWC team try their luck again with this backdoor pilot for a new show revolving around a campus radio station. It failed as well.

Things starts off okay, with Bud scoring a date with babe April (Keri Russell). Unfortunately for Bud, the college's new star basketball player Nikolai Pushkin (Timothy Elwell) also wishes to date April, causing a dilemma for the girl: hot athlete or cute loser.

The show then focusses on college DJs Oliver and Mark (Eric Dane and Andrew Kavovit), who find themselves expelled when they stray from the list of approved questions while interviewing the new dean, Steve Rhoades. Marcy incites protest at the situation, but the guys are reinstated when they turn on the microphone while Bud and Nikolai are fighting to win the affection of April. The broadcast is a massive success, unlike this episode, which feels exactly like the lame attempt at introducing a naff new show with irritating characters that it undeniably is.
