If you envisioned that meme painting by Fernando Botero of Pope Leo, the chubby person, titled Y Tho, you're on the right track. I'm not sure why this nonsense was even made. Perhaps it's a mid-life crisis vanity project for Hart, but it ended up playing out like failed SNL sketches. The story, what little there was of it, didn't have enough substance to even fill in the mere 78 min runtime. The action was laughable, and the comedy was lame. Conceptually, the narrative was interesting, but the execution felt like something you'd expect from a high school drama class. I know this is an ongoing TV series, but it's not like it's successful, so not sure who had the bright idea to turn this into a movie no one will enjoy or for that matter want to see. At least the film's premise is right, Hart isn't a leading action star. But he is the best sidekick ever, and should just stick with that.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is a action super star, who can easily move between violence and humour. His physical size has been repeatedly used as a central joke; at six foot five, he's over a foot taller than Kevin Hart - Dwayne literally has Kevin in his lap in Central Intelligence - with the resentment between the two being a central part of their multiple films.
And this film is supposedly the result of Kevin constantly being cast as that side kick and needing to prove himself as more of an action lead, resulting in plenty of jokes at his expense, particularly coming from Travolta, as the hard assed action star coach in a role (reminiscent of Gabriel Shear in Swordfish). He puts Kevin through his paces so that he can land a role with famous director Claude Van Der Velde (Jean Reno).
But it feels like a sketch (or rather a series of sketches) stretched out into a film length series. The jokes are telegraphed and once you know the secret the story becomes even more predictable. The only head scratcher is what actually happened to Josh Hartnett, given the end of the film...

The bad: I did not laugh once. THAT is a problem when you are watching a supposedly "comedy". I didnt even smirk or smile once. Bummer.
Perhaps this movie has got some other wonderful likeable characteristics? NOPE. This movie is just plain boring.
The original idea of Kevin Hart wanting to become a real tough action movie star is kinda funny. The title was kinda funny as well, hinting at the all time classic "Die Hard" Bruce Willis movie from 1988.
BUT the final execution of this story was plain and simple BORING.
Nicholas Cage does his best, but this (once) great actor has lost it and the other (once) great actor Jean Reno isnt excelling either, to put it politely.
It's best to gently let this movie pass on by and hopefully everyone forgets this was ever made, because there is nothing worse than making a comedy that isnt funny!

Die Hart is an SNL skit that has been prolonged to about 80 minutes long, and it just doesn't have the juice or energy to be a full length movie. Kevin Hart and the rest of the stars try the darndest to make this movie work, but it ends up being just so tired and unfunny.
I really wish that Hollywood had to potential to make real comedies like Ted, Me Myself and Irene, Dumb & Dumber, 40 yo Virgin, Knocked up...
I can watch these movies time and again, but this movie I barely survived, not something to get your mood in, rather I can say it really ruined mine;/
Kevin Hart, man, get a new agent!!
