There is something in here that. Gould have worked but it didn't because it failed to identify what it wanted to be. In the end, it was neither action, drama or comedy.
What it was ended up being one of the laziest scripts I've had the pleasure of watching. Ridiculous plot holes, ridiculous characters, awful dialogue, predictable nonsense, fantasy reality, cliche flooded utter claptrap. None of it made any sense whatsoever. To the point it just became a little insulting to the intelligence.
So today was the day I stopped watching 'The Old Guard 2' on Netflix and this rubbish on Amazon. A day when I realised both services were just pumping out rubbish whilst paying $Millions to support the vile MAGA NAZI Party.
Time to part ways with these tired and lazy services. Zzzz...

"Heads of State": I saw this one on Amazon Prime in our hotel room in Austin. It is an action comedy starring John Cena (as the President of the US!) and Idris Elba (as the Prime Minister of the UK). Soon a disaster occurs where the President and Prime Minister are forced to work together to thwart a conspiracy. It is a silly comedy which tries too hard with over-the-top action and stale jokes. Idris Elba's performance is a highlight, but John Cena is a stone-faced bore. Also stars Stephen Root (he will always be "Milton" to me), Carla Gugino and Jack Quaid. Only recommended for a rainy day or you just need something on in the background. 5/10.
A straight to Amazon movie does not have the best reputation. John Cena does not have a filmography known for quality. I did not go into this movie with high expectations. That being said, I thought that this film was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was fun. It had two likable lead characters. The action, where it wasn't always the best choreographed, was often shot in an interesting way. The story is predictable, the action is over the top, the villain is lame and there are about 3 too many needle drops. But, if you're in the mood for some good dumb fun, this is a fine way to spend 116 minutes.

John Cena is an action hero movie star and becomes President. Idris Elba is British Prime Minister, who came up the hard way, and their styles clash. It is decided, to make good, they will travel together on Air Force One to Warsaw, and then to Trieste for a NATO Summit. However, a notorious Russian terrorist has other plans and this provides the action part of this movie that is filled with periods of high tension, and lots of CGI. The Russian gang is ruthless in trying to kill them both, and they have inside help. So it becomes one action set after another. Much of it is a bit over the top, but fun, and both of them have to help each other to survive. Little is to be taken seriously, and it seems the CGI took most of the money that could be used for better writing. It is a movie that will be quickly forgotten, but really asks to be seen with a bowl of popcorn. In many ways it is silly, and this movie demands that. It is a movie that requires no thought. Yes, Cena can do comedy, but this is not as good as his role in Ricky Stanicky.
Heads of State tries to juggle high-octane action with mainstream comedy, backed by an A-list cast and a blockbuster-sized budget. But in the end, it feels like a film that doesn't know what it wants to be - and fails at everything it attempts.
To call it a comedy is generous. The jokes are too lame to land, and many scenes drag on with awkward punchlines that seem to fizzle out before they even begin. It's not that every comedy needs to be clever or biting, but the movie rarely offers even a chuckle. It leans heavily on slapstick and over-the-top antics, but without the right timing or charm.
That might've been forgivable if the action saved it - but even those large-scale sequences, despite being well-funded and glossy, feel oddly hollow. Explosions, stunts, and exotic locations can't hide the fact that the film has no narrative drive or emotional stakes. It ends up feeling like a patchwork of expensive set pieces stitched together without purpose.
What's most frustrating is how it wastes its cast. With talent this big, you expect at least a few sparks. But none of the performances shine, mostly because the script gives them nothing to work with. It's a textbook case of misusing good actors in bad roles.
No one expected an Oscar-winner here - it just needed to be fun. Unfortunately, it doesn't even deliver on that modest promise. Heads of State is a forgettable, confused mess that tries to be too much and ends up being nothing at all. Skip it.

Not my usual style of movie and the title really bugged me. Because, while the US President is Head of State, the UK Prime Minister is not. King Charles is! The PM is Head of Government and loyal to the King.
Anyway, I decided to watch this movie on a lazy Sunday afternoon because I like Idris and Paddy, so why not. I will watch anything Paddy does.
My thoughts, paddy always plays evil well and is an amazing actor. I'd watch him in anything. Idris is just great and even Cena does a good job. Both the US head of state and UK head of government characters play to their country's humor well. Overall this was a fun movie to watch when you want an easy to watch film on a lazy Sunday. Oh did I mention that the UK PM is not Head of State? Cause they're not.

Heads of state delivers a bullet a second and a joke a minute. A recipe that will for sure keep even the most bored person on earth entertained, however, it is silly, brainless and completely unrealistic. The shooting scenes makes little sense and the jokes are juvenile and by at large not funny at all. Maybe teenagers are the only reasonable audience for this flick.
"Heads of State" deal with an unlikely duo of head of US and head of UK that become action heroes after they are taken down by terrorists. They have to find their way back and eliminate the source of the evil, who constantly chases them down and uses unimaginable resources to do that.
While this might sound attractive to some of you, I must issue you a warning. There is not one piece of realistic or useful information in this flick. This is a total "leave your brain behind' movie. The special effects are well made and the lines and visuals are polished for a PG-13 movie so that anybody (preferably without a brain) can spend their money on. The acting by the main characters is plasticy, flat and robotic. Really other than constant action and special effects there is not much this movie has going for it. In particular I don't think John Cena is doing a good job here, and he looks old and tired.
During the movie I kept asking myself "why?" why would somebody in the government act like that? For what reason, why go through all that length, how do you find mercenaries with an army that would not put a small country to shame? How do people appear in places in the other sides of the world within hours. When do they have time to plan these counter-acts within minutes? Where is all this technology from? Why waste all this money, etc. Etc.
Overall I could not ignore all the nonsense this movie bring around and I could not forgive the shallow jokes this movie tries to deliver. All the CGI money in the world will not help to make this into a good movie. It is NOT a good movie and all these people that describe it as "fun" to me is just a code-word for visuals without content. My exact score: 53 / 100.

This movie has been made a thousand times before, and better. It may possibly be a fun movie for people who dont know politics...or watch the news.
I do wonder if Idris just got offered too many £££s to resist because he feels a bit out of place and awkward at times. Everyone else is in standard roles for a pro message movie.
As for the movie, story is silly but fine for a buddy comedy. The action sequences arent bad with some fun elements and shootouts. Script is very basic and sadly it seems to have various governmental fingerprints all over it. If you dont think that happens, just watch the nato speech near the end and ask why anyone would write that after a fun buddy movie.
Chopras character is erm,well....the film is obviously fantasy but she takes it a step too far. Shes stronger, faster, cleverer, quicker than every miltary-black ops-secret service-private security person in the movie and there are 100s of them. They must be so poorly trained it begs the question, why does the most powerful baddy on the planet hire them?? Oh, she also appears to be bullet proof. Im not hating on Chopra because shes fine but having her character protect Cena and Idris is silly. They are not exactly shrinking violets. At the end both ex military man turned prime minister Idris and ex movie action star turned president Cena, struggle to fight 1 soldier 2 on 1...all after Chopra has taken out hundreds.
To be fair there are plenty of fun scenes and Cena happily plays the clown but Idris dials in his part and it shows.
Its an ok background movie that I give a generous 5/10.
This would bomb in the cinema and should probably be shown on netflix.... I welcome all the thumbs down for pointing out facts. ;-)

American President Will Derringer (John Cena) is visiting British Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba). Sam is serious and unpopular. Former Hollywood action star Will is all about the popularity. British agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) tries to take down arms dealer Viktor Gradov (Paddy Considine). Her team gets massacred. Air Force One is shot down. Both Clarke and Derringer are assumed dead. VP Elizabeth Kirk (Carla Gugino) takes over as NATO starts falling apart.
This is an action-comedy streaming movie. Let's throw another one on the barbie. This one threw me early on. It starts with a semi-serious action section with Priyanka. Despite her various missteps, she could still do action. I was expecting a serious action movie. Then John Cena shows up with all his John Cena comedic acting. I don't like him and I don't like Idris Elba much either. I want to like them more. They do grow on me over time. Jack Quaid helps a lot. He throws the movie decidedly into the comedic direction. After a bumpy start, the movie turns into a dumb action-comedy and that's fine. It gets too dumb in the last act. This is a borderline popcorn movie.

Great movie. Comedy, action and Idris Elba carries it. He really shows why he's the clear favorite (favourite) for James Bond. Cena is also a good actor (no wonder he excelled in WWE) and will probably have many more successful movies. I was shocked that in The Marine he wore an Army cover after spending time at MCRD San Diego. (proof about actors and how much they pay attention)
My only issue was the incredulous idea that we should stay in NATO. The whole premise is reversed (like Eagle Eye), the VP is the good guy trying to get us out of NATO.
But again, they sell us on the idea that we need a global order. (we don't)

Mid movie 5/10 for the indian actress forgot her name but her fight sequences and the action scenes generally looked pretty cool, but over all super generic and boring slow paced so ashamed to say slow about action movie but it sis what it is.why is john cena playing same character over and over am very tired of him in everything his in they always write him as comedic relief, idris alba tried his best but didn't save the movie and jack quid from the boys his action sequence were fire tbh. If prime continue with making this streaming movies they should do it like deep cover that movie had very good writing dialogue and plot.
What are those dialogues!?!? There some good action scene in it, especially the first one without guns, but everything is dragged so bad by those boring dialogues.
John Cena is like the new The Rock, an actor that is uncapable of doing the most basic acting, is just John Cena in another role and not a character.
Idris Elba is the only serious person in the movie and that clash with the light mood, is just cringe all the time he try to make speeches.
This is a step down from Nobody, that was a fun experience and a nice movie with great action scenes and stunt work, I'll forever remember the bus scene.
I hope to remember this movie at all.

Utterly daft quips + explosions fluff-fest in which politicians are portrayed as moderately capable men of action. Would be way more entertaining if the leads were representative of real life politicians.
This is a movie with unique potential - it will definitely go from a 5- to 10-star rating the second somebody splices Trump + Starmer into the lead roles (Biden would have been even funnier, but nobody can suspend disbelief to that degree). Maybe throw in a few WEF peeps for plausible villains, and voila! Instant hit.
C'mon, AI people. The world needs this! It's the spectacle we never knew we needed, but totally deserve.

Heads of State is a one-time watch fun flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. While it's centered around a serious political conflict, the story is delivered in an intentionally humorous and light-hearted way.
The storyline is quite generic - nothing new or groundbreaking - and despite having a star-studded cast, it occasionally feels like it's lacking depth and substance. However, the direction keeps things engaging. The film manages to maintain a steady pace without dragging, offering several humorous banter-filled exchanges and entertaining action sequences to keep the audience hooked.
The screenplay is decent, supported by vibrant visuals and appealing international locations that make it a decent time-pass watch.
When it comes to performances, Idris Elba and John Cena are undoubtedly the shining stars. Their comedic timing and on-screen chemistry bring life to the film and are easily the biggest highlight. The real surprise, though, is Priyanka Chopra Jonas. While it initially seemed like she might have a minor role, she turns out to be one of the leads and holds her ground impressively alongside two major stars, delivering a solid performance.
Overall, Heads of State is a decent entertainer with some good laughs, enjoyable character dynamics, and a few well-executed action scenes. Don't go in expecting much in terms of plot, but if you're looking for a casual, fun ride, it's worth a watch.

For some reason I feel I should like this is a more deeper meaning. Like its a joke inside a joke inside a joke. I think film school people have a name for it. A cliche inside a cliché. The story was ludicrous. The action scenes set up just a bit to perfect. Again the story was ludicrous but the movie seems well produced the scenes were well staged everything looked high end. The shooting locations were fantastic and international. The tech looked top notch and for a movie like this the dialogue was ok. There were actually a few good zingers in there. And those two together worked surprisingly well.
John Cena's filmography continues its puzzling descent with Heads of State-a film that had all the ingredients for an explosive political action-comedy, but somehow ends up feeling like a lukewarm parody of itself. Directed by Nobody's Ilya Naishuller and featuring an ensemble cast including Idris Elba and Jack Quaid, the movie squanders its talent on a premise that promised buddy comedy fireworks but delivers diplomatic dullness.
Cena plays U. S. President Will Derringer, a meathead with a heart who governs with his fists almost as often as with policy. Opposite him is Idris Elba as British Prime Minister Sam Clarke, a more refined but equally intense counterpart. The setup? Classic odd-couple comedy: two global leaders with a very public grudge who must work together when Air Force One is shot down over enemy territory.
John Cena, once praised for his surprisingly sharp comedic timing in Blockers, seems to be regressing here. His performance is loud, broad, and one-note-like he's still trying to play the punchline without the setup. Cena's charisma, once used with subtlety and surprise, is now being thrown at the screen like spaghetti hoping something sticks. Unfortunately, not much does.
Idris Elba, as always, brings gravitas and commitment to a role that's beneath his talents. He does his best to elevate the script, but even his stoic delivery can't salvage the film's clunky jokes or painfully predictable story beats. Jack Quaid, typically a bright spot in ensemble casts, is underused here. Priyanka Chopra and Carla Gugino add style and some firepower to the supporting cast, but the script gives them little to do besides play second fiddle to the testosterone showdown between Cena and Elba.
The action sequences, while competently directed by Naishuller, feel disconnected from the comedy and lack the anarchic energy that made his previous work (Hardcore Henry, Nobody) stand out. The film plays it oddly safe, both in tone and spectacle, despite its globe-trotting, conspiracy-driven plot. The humor is painfully uneven-swinging from slapstick to satire without landing on either. Political jabs feel outdated, and most of the jokes about diplomacy and global politics have all the subtlety of a steel chair to the face.
With a cast this stacked and a director capable of inventive action, it's a shame the final product feels so lifeless.

No one would watch if it wasn't for the familiar faces and the prime push. Super over the top story line filled with a bunch of unrealistic scenes that leave you saying "yeah right!" but they sprinkle in some funny parts that give a chuckle here and there and had good acting which is why it got 5 stars from me. Otherwise it was your typical hoakie action movie and the role you'd expect for John Cena, always the goof or the butt of the joke. Idris Alba really made the film work. If it wasn't for him, yikes! Just an "okay" movie. But this is what you come to expect from straight to streaming movies. I personally do not recommend.

Am a fan of both the actors but to be honest, the comedy wasn't that good. It was childish and a bit boring to be honest. Am not saying it's a bad movie, it's just meh okay.
I would give it an honest rating of 5/10.
I have no issues with the story because It's supposed to be silly. The problem is that the comedy was literally on the thin line between boring and entertaining. Like it's too childish.
IMDB asks me to write 170 more words so I'll just write gibberish from here on. So kindly ignore. I don't know why I need to write 600-2000 words about a movie. It should be short and simple but whatever.

This was such a fresh and funny take on the "president in peril" trope! I loved the original idea of having the leaders themselves be the ones kicking butt. The problem was, this concept made the whole thing wildly unrealistic. Even for this kind of movie, you have to suspend your disbelief a lot, and it often pulled me out of the story.
It's a shame, because there were some genuinely funny moments that made me laugh out loud, the visuals were top-notch, and I appreciated the soundtrack choices. It was also interesting how it touched on some really current political themes without feeling preachy or taking sides. Still, the far-fetched plot kept me from fully enjoying it. Overall, a fun, if unbelievable, ride.
