I Don't Want To Grow Up

There is a lot of fun here to be had with young adult and cult movie references. There is one to YA author Patrick Ness.

Two of the main characters are called Landis and Dante after the movie directors. The teacher at school is called Ms Wiest, presumably after Dianne Wiest who appeared in The Lost Boys. The cult teen vampire movie from the 1980s which was also a reference to Peter Pan.

Set in a small Australian town that has an old abandoned amusement park. Where something spooky is going on. Curious kids have gone in late at night and came a cropper.

Chester Dante and Mapplethorpe Landis are best friends at high school. The day new student Violetta Nakata arrives from Melbourne. They sneak into the park and later Dante and Landis have an argument.

It is all change from then on. Landis goes back to the park later and dies. Only for Dante to be later in for a huge shock.

The first episode is breezy and fun. It has the normal ingredients, two nerdy best friends. The high school bully, the new girl in town whose family have the local funeral parlour.

Of course there is darkness at the edge of town. The spookiness of the old fairground and that could lead to something exciting and scary.
