After multiple delays due to reshoots and the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the series premiered 10 years after the Netflix series Daredevil (2015).
It was announced on October 23, 2023 that Kevin Feige and the other Marvel executives watched the first few episodes during the writers and actors strike and didn't like what they saw. So, they fired the writers and directors and sought new creative people.
The show was conceived as an episodic soft reboot of the original Netflix Daredevil (2015) series with a comparatively lighter tone. However, the creative overhaul of the show and the return of original Netflix cast members not previously cast in the series confirmed that the show would be a serialized continuation of the Netflix storylines.
Sandrine Holt was originally set to replace original Netflix Daredevil (2015) actress Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk for this series. However, fan criticism of the recasting, on top of the eventual creative overhaul, led to Zurer's return to the role. This was not officially confirmed until set photos depicting Zurer were released.
Kamar de los Reyes the actor who portrayed Hector Ayala/White Tiger, passed away from cancer on December 24th, 2023. The second and third episodes of the series, Optics (2025) and The Hollow of His Hand (2025) were dedicated to Reyes' memory.
