I'm loving this Jason Segel comeback. He's an exceptional comedy actor and proves he's pretty good at dramatic acting too with this episode. Harrison Ford is super funny.
The writing is what makes this show so awesome. Brett Goldstein, you're a hero. Couldn't ever imagine Roy Kent of all people would be so good at writing melancholy scenes and the emotional beats which are so well set up and executed.
Loved the conversation of the three therapists, the coffee scene as well as the counselor scene. This episode made me laugh out loud quite a bit. Jason Segel, take a bow. Brett Goldstein, take a bow. Bill Lawrence, take a bow. Harrison Ford, take a bow.

The title of this episode "Fortress of Solitude" is quite apt. Each of the characters is submerged in a fortress of solitude. Jimmy is trying to avoid pain. His solutions are really destructive because he is so damaged. Paul, Harrison Ford, instead of being manic like Jimmy, is also filled with angst. His solution is to be a reserved, internalizing mess. He uses his job to deflect the slings and arrows that attack him. His stoicism disappears at times when he is alone and reacting to the craziness around him. Alice has taken a different route. She feels ignored and betrayed. Even Liz, who has taken the mantle of determination, is lonely and fnds solace in helping Alice. This is going to be a great show--already is.
This show has just blown me away so far. Jason Segel could win the Emmy, Bill Lawerence is maybe the greatest tv creator of all time, every character already feels so flushed out in only 2 episodes. I do not know if I can yet if this is better than Ted Lasso, but god damn Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. Apple TV+ might genuinely be the best streaming service in terms of television and it does not seem particularly close. Cannot wait to watch the rest of the series. If the rest of the season is as good as these first two episodes, Bill Lawrence will go down as the greatest TV creator of all time.
