I really enjoy games like this, a simple side scrolling game where you fight enemies, platform and find secrets. Of course, it also contains cute characters, cool bosses and funny dialogue. I played Gal Gun and this is in the same universe, I figured out it was when I defeated the demonic bunny and Aoi appeared with her bunny ears. I thought the game was going to be super short and straightforward; however, you do go through the stages twice or more as you try to rescue girls and find some items. It is not a Metroidvania, though this is getting a sequel that will be one.
The story has a little demon trying to figure out her next prank when something comes to her through a mirror. Cut to our two cute demon hunters heading to school. Unfortunately, when they arrive at school a creepy castle stands in its place. They don their demon hunting gear and proceed to find out what is behind this strange dimensional rift between the human and demon realms.
The two girls are sisters and they each have a very distinct fighting style. The older one uses a gun and of course has a longer reach; however, the younger sister uses origami melee attacks which is shorter range but stronger. I like finding other girls and saving them, on the second play through they are in the gym and you can talk to them each of them having distinct personalities.
So, this is not for everybody as it is very retro in its presentation. I like the girls design as they are cute anime girls. I prefer games from Japan as too often western developed games tend to make their characters a bit too bland and quite frankly very unattractive. I work in a retail store, I do not want to see what I do every day in real life in my games too. So if you like Castlevania like games from back in the day give this one a try.
