While I don't doubt that Dr. Reid has a PhD in psychology, her claim that she is a « scientist-specialist » in criminology is not sustained by a search for her publications in peer-reviewed journals. I found only one publication (a litterature review - Psychiatr Psychol Law. 2020 Feb 6;27(1):126-137) where her name appears as the second of four authors. This is not an impressive academic profile. Even the name of this series « Sarah Reid and the midnight order » is more suggestive of a J K Rowling novel than a a fact-based documentary. Overall, the script is tedious and verbose, and I have hardly learnt something interesting, although I must admit that I did not find the strength to go beyond the first episode.
Part of America wants to always be and remain a victim. If that is you, this show is for you.
637 markers of a serial killer? If you list 637 items, any individual is going to have hundreds of those. Your list is useless.
ABOUT MY REVIEWS:
I do not include a synopsis of the film/show -- you can get that anywhere and that does not constitute a meaningful review -- but rather my thoughts and feelings on the film that hopefully will be informative to you in deciding whether to invest 90-180 minutes of your life on it.
My scale: 1-5 decreasing degrees of "terrible", with 5 being "mediocre" 6- OK. Generally held my interest OR had reasonable cast and/or cinematography, might watch it again 7 - Good. My default rating for a movie I liked enough to watch again, but didn't rise to the upper echelons 8- Very good. Would watch again and recommend to others 9- Outstanding. Would watch over and over; top 10% of my ratings 10 - A classic. (Less than 2% receive this rating). For Lifetime Movies for Chicks (LMFC), drop the above scale by 3 notches. A 6 is excellent and 7 almost unattainable.

And i am on the edge of my seat, and I am outraged. I don't want to tell the narrative here, no spoilers, but the disregard for the lives of women deemed inconsequential is criminal. Sasha Reid and the Order are doing essential work to unearth truth and to value the lives of these women. It is important to watch this story. The director uses the sweeping landscape, vast vistas, in a way that contrasts with the small, hidden world these women inhabited. They were invisible to mainstream society, and went uncounted, unreported, and unavenged. The doc highlights the few people who were willing to dig further over the decades in which the story unfolds. We'll see in episode 4 (I hope) that they have not done this work in vain.
I love true crime. This show is fast turning into one of the very best out there. Cheers to Sasha Reid and her smart, thoughtful team for spotlighting crime victims who would otherwise be forgotten. I was once asked by a male friend, "why are women so obsessed with serial killers?" I think many people are interested in learning more about what makes a serial killer tick. For women, we can readily and easily empathize with women who have been targeted and murdered by a serial killer. We know it could have easily been us. We also watch to look out for the signs of a psychopath. Knowledge is power. Sasha and her team are bringing that in droves.
This series explores the how and why a group called THE MIDNIGHT ORDER delves into unsolved murders and missing persons, crimes usually committed against women and members of marginalized communities. THE MIDNIGHT ORDER is comprised of talented and dedicated women who take on the task of investigating behind the buried truths in police reports and the pseudo-factual snippets on line and in other media, aiming to uncover what really happened.
The truths uncovered by THE MIDNIGHT ORDER can and do often reveal defects in police investigations and a system that is denying justice and closure to the families of the victims.
The women of THE Midnight Order have the education, experience and grit to re-investigate theses crimes with fresh eyes and a fresh perspective.
This is a compelling series. We need a second season with Sasha Reid and the Midnight Order.
