Catch-22 was the epitome of the logical contradictions we live with in life. I'm not sure the makers of the mini-series and critics favorable to it understand the book's purpose. The best example of this is that they LEFT OUT THE ENDING!! So much so that I thought the title "Season One" meant just what it implied: that there was going to be another season. I expect most people who read and liked the book feel the same. C'mon man, you had SIX HOURS. The 1970 movie wasn't great but at least they were more faithful to the book. This should have added "inspired by novel of the same name" instead.
As a lifelong Catch-22 fan, I subscribed to Hulu just for this series, hoping the best from George Clooney. Sadly, the writers have done a terrible job of capturing the black humor and circular logic and timeline of Heller's novel - and have added scenes that do Heller no justice at all (along with the ridiculous nickname for Yossarian). A poor bookend to the much superior Mike Nichols/Buck Henry collaboration, with its edgier cast and more authentic dialogue and storyline.
Hard to express how boring this is. I struggled through it but it's hours that I will never get back. Save yours.

Just wasted 5 hours of a rainy day on this. One of my all-time favorite novels wasted again. Perhaps "Hollywood" should just leave this classic alone.
The producers found a way to make Heller's work boring. Major characters missing or minimized to the point of invisibility. Others unnecessarily expanded. E.G. Scheisskopf expanded to give Clooney a bigger role. A role he is not good in.
Most other roles either mis-cast or poorly directed.
Read the book again. Far better use of your time.

We agree with the reviews which mostly give this a thumbs down but how does it get a 7.9 rating when 90% of the comments are negative or aee this as a very poor production?
The book (and movie) are full of contradictory circular dialogue (Catch-22), which is absent from this series. The macabre humor of the book has been watered down to the point that if you hadn't read the book, you wouldn't know that it was supposed to be funny. In fact, I don't think that the writers knew it was supposed to be funny. It's an interpretation from another, parallel universe.
Two stars, rather than one, because on it's own, it's a well done story about a war-weary bombardier. But it's fan fiction. It's not Catch-22.

Catch 22 is one of my all time favourite books, in fact it's the first book I ever laughed out loud to whilst reading..
Then came the film in 1970, it was disappointing but in many respects they caught the essence of the humour and the horror of war.
I resigned myself to knowing that you can never make a film that truly interprets a book.
Now we have the TV series, I was excited when I saw this had been made, finally a true version, a faithful representation of Heller's book. Boy was I disappointed!
The problem is Clooney, rather than using the money and screen time at his disposal to present us with Catch 22 he turns it into a Clooney 22. Not content with directing and producing, the part he played was expanded enormously, at the expense of other richer character from the book.
It wasn't funny and it wasn't shocking, but it was sanitised so much I had to check it wasn't a Disney production.
I would recommend the original film before this, for those you who haven't read the book, do so.
VERY disappointed sigh

It's alright if you didn't read the book but if you read the Joseph Heller's masterpiece, you won't like this crap one bit. Now i know there are very few movies adaptations that had done justice to the books they are based on, but this one ain't even adaptation, they changed the characters, their nature, even dialogues.

A feeble attempt to capture and portray the endless ironies in the movie, due not only to the lack-lustre script but also the two-dimensional acting - no depth at all.

Although not even half as funny as MASH. I'd never read the book nor seen the movie before so really had no idea what I was in for. At first it looked like it was going to be MASH with airplanes, and I was ready to settle in for a good show, especially since it was apparent that these were superb actors. But then the show turned nightmarish. Now I can stand to watch or read some Stephen King every now and then, but by the end of the third episode, I had had enough.
If you like to watch shows where people are unnecessarily cruel to each other, or you like old-fashioned World War II bomber movies with blood and body parts, go for it. Otherwise, spend your time on something else.

No really, disappointing. Or really disappointing. Especially when you see who was behind the cameras. Did anybody even read the book??
Tone was ALL wrong. Funniest parts were left out. Characters missing or not as depicted in the novel. I realize this is a hard novel to bring to the screen but this was frankly pretty pathetic. How anyone rated this misfire 10/10 is beyond belief (or they did not read the source novel). A few parts were funny but overall this was a colossal disappointment I am not a huge fan of the 1970 movie but it was Citizen Kane or The Godfather compared to this dreck. If you enjoyed the book I recommend you skip this!
