Unlikely to recover from Season 3

Brilliant storytelling in Season 1, but then overly political ... and not as fun

Many times I've thought that this one of the best programs on TV. It is has great acting, clever witty dialog and great stories. Like its predecessor, The Good Wife, many of the storylines are enticing food for thought.

The only critique I have is that the show can get overly political. At some point, it stops being compelling story telling and sounds like a rant. It may be a rant I agree with but ... it's just not fun to watch. It feels like I'm re-living yesterday's news instead of breaking new ground.

The writers can be brilliant so I hope they get some a fresh ideas for the next season. Let's get some new unpredictable storylines and interesting cases ... it'll be great for the show.

I like it more than The Good Wife.

I watched this show out of curiosity as someone taking a law class right now and actually found it pretty interesting. I always liked the character of Diane on The Good Wife and it's neat to see a very different type of law firm than the one on the Good Wife-- I'm honestly more invested in the success of the firm.

In a way, this reminds me of The West Wing. It's that same kind of fast paced, jargon-y, liberal comfort food. Rose Leslie's bad American accent is really distracting and I'm not all that into some of the random story lines but it's a great show to lean back and relax with on a Sunday night.

CBS has produced a very well-made drama that isn't necessarily groundbreaking but uses previous formulas and tropes in a captivating way.

So good!

The end of Good Wife and the beginning of the Good Fight! Christine Baranski,is a joy to watch and she definitely holds her own in this spin off! Love seeing the characters from Good Wife pop up every now and then! LI have a feeling this is going to be even more promising in terms of character build up and story line, it definitely helps that there is a a talented set of actors associated.

Give this a shot if your missing your fix of the Good Wife.Highly recommended!

It is fabulously done!

Interesting storyline and great performances but the intermittent music/cartoon wanna be 'School House Rock' skits derail my focus and interest.

Of course, I miss Alicia, but...

...really great to see all of my favorite actors & actresses in this setting again.

I especially enjoy seeing the Law & Order alumni and the wonderful characters they continue to build here. Also, the setting presents many more opportunities for people of color to "chew up the scenery" in ways that the original series didn't always provide.

I only have two concerns that keep me from bumping this to a 10:

1 - The Good Wife soars and the The Good Fight suffers from the respective restraint (from being on network TV) and lack of restraint (from being on All Access). Though restraint is not always appropriate, there always exists a benefit from restraint, and trap for non-restraint. Restraint makes writers more disciplined and clever as they try to push the envelope to see what they can get away with. Writing has to be tighter to get the message across. The Good Fight has fallen into the trap of, "well we can curse and show nudity, so let's make sure we do!" Indeed, it turns into a distraction from the story and the characters.

2 - The backbone of The Good Wife is the Legal drama, and watching the characters navigate through Trials and trial prep with quirky and wonderful characters along the way. (Love the quirky Judges!). In "The Good Fight, there seems to be more back-story and less Legal drama. Almost every "Good Wife" gets one deeply involved in the cases being handled, and how they affect the people involved. So far with "The Good Fight": Not so much.

Thanks for keeping this universe alive!

Unmissable

I'm loving this season, as the last two. Lots of important issues raised, demonstrating the tricky predicament of trying to keep integrity in a corrupt world. Imperfectly perfect.

Intriguing, engaging, and joyful.

As with most sequels the matter of whether they can keep the magic of the original is always a question. But "The Good Fight" does a brilliant job of keeping just the right amount of the original without losing its own identity.

Perfectly Captures the Insanity of the Trump Years

I'm kinda appalled that people are so up in arms over the political tone of this show. Lawyers represent for the most part both sides of the political spectrum in this country and since Trump came to the White House and left it in predictable disgrace, THE GOOD FIGHT perfectly showcases the highs and lows of both sides (well, admittedly, Republicans are in for a shellacking on this series). The writing, acting and direction of THE GOOD FIGHT is outstanding. The cast is perfect. Christine Baranksi is a cool center presence, which leaves Delroy Lindo and the radiant Audra McDonald to make sure the plots keep churning at a level that keeps the viewer watching. Cush Jumbo, Sarah Steele, Nyambi Nyambi are the kids in the series with their own compelling storylines. The absurdities of the judicial system often mirror a 20-car freeway pile-up. Every once in a while you get the feeling that the wheels of the bus are coming undone, but the show always puts its characters at the service of good writing, which brings the stories to a fresh and often strangely satisfying conclusion. Or they spin off into a paranoid direction that is not out of place in our crazy world. I loved The Good Wife, and this intriguing spinoff like its predecessor never disappoints.

Loved Season 4

Rose was the life of the first two seasons. The characters were strong and the overall feel of the drama was serious with some bling and comedy on the side. It was a breath of fresh air so to speak in this genre.

Third season was like the show getting hijacked by some third rate Indian producer, turning into a slapstick anti Trump roller coaster. It simply turned me off.

I started season 4 with very low expectations. To my utter disappointment, the first episode had the same vibe, plot, everything. I questioned why I even gave it a chance.

But I reluctantly stuck because of the extremely titillating preview of the next episode at the end of the first. And boy was it great! Yes, the season 3 shenanigans were still there but they got reduced as we got closer to the finale of an already shortened season. At the end, I was glued to the screen again, thirsting for more.

All the characters finally became as mature as they were in the first two seasons. Diane, Luca (well she never went to the dark side), Liz, Boseman, and everybody else were at their finest.

a very catchy and nteresting series

All good until series 5 - it's all like a cartoon this 5 series and nothing like the others. Seems like the script is written by a 12 yo who lives in a SF movie. Wake up, you ar ruining this with the 5-th season!

Trump is YOUR president, deal with it and bring back brilliant dramedy!!

Seasons one and two, just fantastic. Clever, well acted , well made! Season 3!?' Now America, whether you like to admit it to yourselves or not, apathy elected Donald Trump as your president. Yes the writers are adamant in alienating viewers with their anti-Trump liberal bias. It's just not clever writing. Now don't get me wrong, I am anti trump, and have a liberal bias. But the writers need to return to form with the clever and twisting scripts and direction of seasons one and two. This seems to be a common thread with American shows at the moment, yes trump is a vial person, but most audiences are clever enough to make up their own minds without having it crammed down their throats! Like the Good Wife, I simply love the Good Fight. Please get your house in order for season 4!!!

Wonderful parody

As a Trump supporting MAGA Republican I am enjoying this show immensely. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was written by pro Trump writers who's intention is to parody the Trump Derangement Syndrome that infected the left at the time as well as currently. From sinister secret meetings between the DNC and sleazy groups in obviously underground locals, the effort to make up lies and fake news to try to undermine the administration is on point with liberal anti Trump mania. If Trump wins in '24 I look forward to any increased liberal anti Trump mania the writers have in store. This show has provided many laughs at the liberals spinning out of control because of their hate for Trump.

Whole Show Changed

The first season was really great. Then it switched from a legal show to a political satire show and it is all over the place. I'm on season 3 and I'm not watching season 4.

Brilliant but don't watch S5.

5 lost the plot. No need to make the whole season about what it did. Totally lost interest.

Luckily I liked the other seasons so much that I would highly recommend they still watch those.

Amazing show hidden in showtime

Loved The good wife but this one has kicked off even better. Good writing involving some pretty realistic political drama with plenty of comedy going with it. Definitely worth to watch.

Good followup

Many of the original actors and staff. Has the obligatory gay couple (which by now you would think we could do without), but still a story line that keeps interest. And, like The Good Wife, you get to learn some legal tidbits and see legal maniverung that most of us, probably even many lawyers, will never get to see first hand.

A very thought-provoking and entertaining show!

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The humour (most of it, although some American humour is over the top), cases covered, legal arguments and some of the legal issues make this one of the more interesting and entertaining shows. Many issues and/or generalizations of places and legalities leaves one reconsidering their own thoughts. It is a fascinating world of law, legal cases, order, chaos and sooo much more!

The personal lives were not only interesting, but showed the personal trauma and triumphs of dealing with personal issues in a public workplace. The many people taking things into their own hands (creating their own courts in their own communities) and the implications tied into that is not only crazy, but shows a reality of what we can face... How many individuals actually take real and everyday life into their own hands?! So much of what happens in the world is often hidden and more often "not brought to justice," which is a sad reality.

It is interesting, however, that when Chicago is in turmoil (bombs, riots etc), some of the characters say something like this: 'What is happening with "the world"?!' ... I find it interesting that they refer to Chicago/the USA as "The World"!

I thought the ending was perfect!

I like the show but the message sucks

I am watching season 5. The plot line is overall exciting and meaningful for trying to lead us to critically think about the present paradigm in US. However, the show tries too hard on presenting the producers' advocacy of a third way out - Anarchism and Communalism - by excessively putting focus on the fake court. This is a rather sick idea that I considered as a disruption to rules and orders and reductionism to present social issues, while the show is trying to instil it to the audience is sickening.

I don't mind that if a tv show trying to present a message but the show is just trying to hard. And it doesn't even manage to sell it well.

Incredible season 5

First of all I'm european and maybe from my point of view this series is America where everything is possible and that 93/4 court also.

So, who can tell what is real and what is fiction? Whole world knows abour Covid and Congress attack, but details.... It should be watched as tv show and nothing more.

Hugely enjoyable - and don't sweat the Trump Stuff..

Firstly the show.

Its fun. Well written, occasionally laugh out loud funny. And its exquisitely put together like a fine meal, albeit a salad rather than a steak.

And yes, the show has anti-Trump sentiment. But here's the thing, its done in such a stupid way, I'm not even sure that the show isn't trolling Resisters.

And more importantly, with his explicit rendition of the legal profession being staffed by chances playing silly games, its more representative of Mueller's clown show investigation than anything to do with Trump.

One of the best streaming shows on TV..until Seasons 4/5

I was pleasantly surprised by the story line, the acting and the outstanding production values of this series. It's legal and political jabs were right on and each episode made me crave for the next episode. Until it's characters became cartoonish. Diana starting laughing at everything, and a kangaroo court became legitimized. Picture a judge forcing lawyers to wear goofy costumes when he disagreed with them. The fall of this series was fast and hard and in many ways, sad. Couple that with being forced to watch it on the plodding Paramount + app and I couldn't leave fast enough.
