The Axiom

It will surprise you!

This is actually quite good horror/thriller movie. The story is interesting, the acting is acceptable and since it is obviously built with a not-much budget, it is pretty well made. Does not expect you to be a genious, nor it will demand highq IQ to understand it, making it enjoyable and good choice for "scary-movie-night" either alone or with significant other.

If you like good story before CGI and effects, Axiom... It will surprise you. I Loved it.

Engaging enough but rather flawed overall

Heading out into the woods, a woman and a group of friends looking for her missing sister stumble upon a mysterious cabin where they think she hid out, and upon searching the area for her find the world they've stumbled into an alternate dimension just like her sister did and must find a way to get out of the world alive.

This was quite an enjoyable enough effort. One of the better features presented here is the rather intriguing mythology that's utilized here for explaining the central concept here. The idea of traveling to the specific part of the woods and going through the exact motions that are required of them that we see manages to give off a wholly enjoyable backstory to the film. Once in that section of the woods, the creepiness intensifies as the mystery builds itself rather nicely. The series of mysteries surrounding the central shack they stumble across the mysterious objects inside which goes hand-in-hand with the constant mentions of how the time never changes that makes for a really enjoyable and disorienting experience. The idea of the forest is home to a specific breed of creatures that manage to cause such vivid hallucinations that are shown here including the strange deformed beings appearing behind people or causing them to turn on each other which gives this plenty of strong gore and kills. These here are what hold the film up overall. There are a few major issues to be had here. The main problem on display is the absolutely banal and boring build-up that makes this one so dull to get through it makes the first half to this one. Featuring the conversations in the bar about the mode of traveling to the cabin to the group holding up the hike to bust on each other or take drugs, the film takes way too long to get the group at the central cabin where everything starts going wrong. That the pacing here is just stiff and rather bland to get though causes this one to be much longer than it needs to be, which isn't helped at all by the unnecessary scenes about them not trusting her for lying to them that serve no purpose than to give this a longer running time. The other main flaw here is the utterly terrible and chaotic mess that arises from the final half. With a series of nonsensical actions about who's possessed and who's not leading to complete confusion over the true nature of each individual featured on-screen to the completely random group of hunters that show up to get started on a plotline involving them hunting down the creatures in the different worlds and how to access it all that could've provided more fodder for different movies than just a throwaway line in a single scene. All of this could've been given more time to flesh itself out instead of being thrown together into this jumbled, confused narrative at the end that undoes so much of the film's positives until then. These here are what really hold this one back the most.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and drug use.

A nice take on the alternate dimension trope

Don't expect a blockbuster, and you won't be disappointed.

It's a simple low-budget indie flick, and it doesn't pretend to be something it's not.

That said, if you watch the movie expecting it to be a simple low-budget indie flick, it's a fun ride, even if it is predictable in some places. Would be a great movie for a drinking game with a group of friends.

The basic concept is actually a fresh take on the whole alt dim trope (this is revealed in the first 10 mins so i don't feel bad about marking this as no spoilers); there are a couple obvious plot holes that could have been teased out and a script that could have used a more deft hand in the delivery. Definitely not bad, but you can tell there were learning opportunities.

This is one of those movies your expectations will influence whether or not you enjoy. Expect a really 'raise the bar film' and you will hate it. Expect a low-budget indie film by someone who is still developing their skills, and you'll have a good evening.

Nicholas Woods is one to watch. Very much looking forward to seeing what he puts out with 3 or 4 more projects' worth of experience behind him.

Pretty good for indie

In this day an age, it's hard to come up with original ideas in horror. The Axiom may have borrowed a few ideas from other movies in the genre but it keeps it original in it's delivery. And that's what it's about. The Axiom delivers. Blood, guts, gore, demons, psychopaths and more. Definitely worth a watch.

An Entertaining Horror Movie!

A lot of the best horror movies are indie flicks, and most indie horror movies are filled with sub par actors, horrible dialog, and come across amateurish. For an indie horror film this movie certainly didn't fit the status quo, the story line was interesting, the acting was acceptable, and I was entertained through the entire movie.

When it comes to user reviews on indie movies, user reviews become less reliable. But user reviews for indie horror films are outright ridiculous with about 90% being worthless! User reviews for this film are among the worst I've seen. If you don't like horror movies, or you don't like indie movies, and above all if you don't like indie horror films don't waste your time, you're not going to like this movie. But if you're like me and are always on the lookout for an enjoyable horror movie, chances are this will keep you entertained.

Creepy!

I thought the cinematography really captured an out of this world feel. The actors portrayed believable characters in spite of the end game being somewhat predictable.

Original B horror with strong start and weaker finish

As with most horror movies I see, I didn't know what to think. The film started out like a usual horror trope, young adults putting themselves in the middle of nowhere. Right away the plot device spun away from what I'm familiar with, and I was happy to watch something new rather than "monsters attack campers". The atmospheric tension was foreboding and the impending doom really made for some good jump scares and genuinely scary scenes. The movie was pretty campy with their character archetypes, they even reference the tropes as relating to Scooby Doo and this made for some painful climatic events & conflict resolution. The originality faded from the beginning of the movie till I didn't really care about any of the characters and some dark Romero humor played out till the end. I wasn't satisfied with how the movie ended but I am not a movie director or screen writing so I appreciated the entertainment. Overall I think the movie has enough scares, action and romance to be time well spent. I give it a solid 7/10 and hope others will check it out.
