Recensioni in evidenza
First, any intelligent middle schooler and any age above that will find the interconnected series of Roald Dahl poems unexpectedly funny; creatively twisty; a bit disturbing; and in the end perhaps morally instructional. Cinderella, Red Riding, Wolf, Pigs, Jack, Snow have their true (supposedly) now intersecting stories told. Second, the animations; compositing; modeling; renderings; voice acting and subtle background music all complete a well thought out first rate production. Third, the detailed subtleties/nuances in the characters and their actions (the awkward smile; the tilt of the head; the shifty eyes) keep you completely absorbed into that character.
"Revolting Rhymes Part One" was nominated for the Best Animated Short Oscar. In many ways it's nothing like the other shorts and seems more like a full-length movie cut in two...and we only got to see the first half. Considering it was also released with "Revolting Rhymes Part Two" in 2016, you almost wonder why the film wasn't considered for the Best Animated Feature award instead.
The plot to this story is an odd mashup of both "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Snow White"....but with many, many, many differences. This is apparently because the Big Bad Wolf is telling the story. Some of the changes are pretty funny, but parents might not want to let very young kids watch, as it is a bit violent and Snow White is a bit of a violent maniac.
The quality of the animation is about average. Some of it looks nice, other parts just fair. I enjoyed watching it but really can't understand what makes this one special enough to earn a nomination.

This was the longest of the Oscar-nominated animated films for 2018 and I firmly believe the best. Based on a book by Roald Dahl with illustration by Quentin Blake, it is the best film version of any Roald Dahl work I have ever seen. There is little doubt that Dahl was a brilliant, mean, sick man, and whenever you look at an adaptation of his work, there comes a point at which there is a clear wobbling and a sense of "No, let's not go there, shall we? Let's just make farting noises. That will make the kiddies laugh."
Mr. Dahl went there. Mr. Dahl went there, and said "Hans Christian Anderssen went there, and so did the Brothers Grimm. And how do you like the venison, Mr. Disney?" This story that combines Red Riding Hood, Snow White, the Three Little Pigs, bank fraud, horse-race fixing, and a nice little revenge drama, as narrated by the uncle of the Big Bad Wolves, is a constant black-humor delight. I see that REVOLTING RHYMES part 2 is listed on the IMDb. I have high hopes.

Decided to show my daughter some Roald Dahl. This came on as suggested. I very unwisely let her watch forgotting how dark the books were. By the time Red Riding Hood had got rid of one wolf, we were both hooked. There is a lot of anarchic unpredictability. The wolf being a great narrator. I love the way the story weaves back into the scene with the cafe at the end.
This has become a staple in a home where no one has kids. Multiple times we've put on episode one at a party, and the whole room goes quiet. We always finish both episodes.
There isn't a single thing in this I can pinpoint as it's strength. I could point out the writing, but then you'd have to praise the performances. But then you'd have to include the brilliant animations, the designs, composition, everything about this oozes personality and impact.
My nephews are still very young, but i can't wait to show it to them. I highly recommend it. It's a little intense at parts, so might be rough on younger kinds.

- QuizWhen the Banker Pig picks up his newspaper, at one point the headline is about a disco at the palace. This foreshadows Part Two, which is about Cinderella.
