When Linda's husband vanishes while on a cruise to celebrate their wedding anniversary she turns to her lifelong friends for support, but each of them is facing their own problems.

Sue reluctantly faces her birthday and tensions arise with her son Andrew when he reveals a big secret. Gail is determined to try and rekindle the spark between her and Dave before their divorce is finalised.

Linda is questioned on suspicion of murdering Micky and Gail and Sue desperately try to help her. However, as they try to expose the lies behind Carole's accusations they are shocked when they uncover the truth.

The deranged Carole tries to force Linda at knife point to admit to killing Micky but is arrested after Ruby and Tom intervene. Afterwards Gail accompanies Tom to retrieve his son Ben from estranged wife Corrine and Tom is also happy to learn that Ruby is carrying his child. Linda is less fortunate when told she must apply for Job Seekers Allowance to help with her mortgage though Andrew, Sue and Ryan all offer solutions. Sue presses ahead with her tribunal but news from Andrew forces an admission from Linda and Edna's dementia puts Gail and Tom in danger.

Linda is rushed to hospital after taking an over-dose she claims was accidental. As friends and family wait anxiously Gail is grateful for Dave's support and sees a chance for reconciliation. Sue is shocked to see John brought in following a heart attack and surprised when he and his wife Beth want to reinstate her at the magazine. Andrew is less convinced and his efforts to safeguard Sue's interests drive a wedge between Beth's sons and John but a reconciliation for John and Andrew. Next day Gail and Sue accompany Linda to Spain to identify the body washed ashore as being Micky's.

Waking up in their Spanish hotel Linda tells her friends about Micky's drunken violence towards her over the years of their marriage and events on the night he went over the side of the ship. At the police station she identifies his body though afterwards she has another admission for Gail and Sue before getting a shock herself, which only adds to her troubles. Sue comes up with an idea to free Linda for all time, requiring the three friends to work together to bury the past.
