I really cannot understand the appeal of this awful, awful show. How so called viewers and critics can call this tripe one of the best shows ever is completely beyond me. This is nothing like the Wire, The Sopranos or Breaking Bad which is the greatest show ever made.
The show just consists of Logan Roy's kids insulting each other or everyone else and the show's writers having characters swearing at each other every 5 seconds. The acting especially from Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkan are terrible. The show has no character development what so ever.
The character of Greg is the most annoying and stupid character that I have ever seen in any TV show. At least Game of Thrones had 7 great seasons of character development. This show has nothing. Every character is unlikeable and the show is just unwatchable.
People stated this this is one of the greatest TV shows ever. Clearly people's taste is very low if you think swearing and vulgar jokes is good writing. Sarah Snook just pulls faces before and after talking and swears as if she thinks she's clever or funny. I wanted her character killed off of 20 minutes. And as for Connor the other son who didn't want anything to do with the family business, his beard goes through more development than his character. His character is basically someone who doesn't work but then decides to want to run for president with his awfully acted girl friend/ex-call girl. People do not talk the way or act in the way that this show writes them.
This is without doubt one of the worst shows I have ever seen. How this won best outstanding drama over Better Call Saul is a complete mystery. Watch The Wire, The Sopranos or Mad Men if you appreciate great writing. Avoid this tripe at all costs. Terrible.

Started off with some very unlikeable characters. Progressive seasons made these characters even less than one dimensional, even more unlikeable and made to behave like they barely had a brain cell between them. One big surprise episode per season couldn't hold this show together. I don't understand the hype. If you want to watch intelligent well written political drama, watch The West Wing. If you enjoy a relentlessly miserable people behaving unhinged for four long seasons with no respite, watch this utter pile of nonsense. One to avoid if you really do not find a show full of increasingly unlikeable characters behaving irrationally. Would give it a zero if I could.
I don't think I have seen a more boring and overrated series than this. 4 seasons , 40 episodes (or something) they deal with the same thing over and over and over again. The characters are boring, not inspirational at all and they don't interact with each other in any interesting way. This show being on the top 100 tv shows ever really makes me doubt about where the tv shows are heading and how difficult it is to make a good show these days. In a nutshell, totally boring, repetitive, not dealing with anything that concerns more than 1% of the global population and certaintly very glad that it's over!
The show is like watching an endless loop that never changes. People sitting around saying nothing. Nothing ever changes. You can jump ahead 2 seasons, and nothing ever changes. All in all, a pretty disgusting show, going nowhere.

No. Who cares about these people? The plot is nonsense. We never actually see a "media corporation", we just see spoiled, self-worshipping, completely empty bags of skin stabbing each other over and over. There is no story. There is no redemption. There is no one to pull for. If this flat story is supposed to inform us of the media elite, it shows us nothing. So much effort with so little result. A waste of human talent.

What a tedious drawn out load of dribble. Kept waiting for a likeable character to appear...they never did.
Have never seen such a boring script spewed out by even more boring actors...

I could not wait for this TV show to end. Horribly repetitive with no likeable or relatable characters. Roman was one of the few with somewhat of a character arc. I did like Gerri's character as well as Karolina. Why not get some insight into their backstories, as well as other characters? No, because the show wants to beat you over the head with constant bickering by the children as they all fight for control of the company.
The dramatic tricks pulled are weak at best as they try to convince that any of these characters matter. Betrayal, forgiveness, betrayal, forgiveness, over and over again until a lackluster ending finally kills this bore of a show. What a disappointment.

Disfunctional, humorless, cruel, and totally lacking in anything approaching entertainment. If this is supposed to be reflective of the Rupert Murdoch family, why watch any more?

Not one single character is likable! Watched enough episodes to realize there is absolutely nothing worth watching. Why did this show receive a green light?

Don't watch it. You will waste your time. Nothing serious about it. Incorrect portrayal of business life and foul language. HBO standards have really sunk. I cannot describe it more accurately because Imdb won't let me to do it.

I am actually aghast at all of these high ranking reviews! Am I watching the same show ?
What an awful mess this is , what is this trying to be ?
What I see is a try hard mash of many things that have already been done ( and done well ) Stop with the stupid camera work , stop with the attempt at ad-libbed type scenes , it does not work .
All the actors ( apart from Cox ) are just absolutely terrible. Macfadyn is just an absolute dulloid and a pointless character .
I lasted half way thru the second episode.
A laughable heap of codswallop..

I expected to have a rich, drama-filled story. Instead, the show is a lot of characters with no depth, no development, and no problems. In the whole first season, lots of things almost happen. Nothing actually goes anywhere, though. The start of every episode ends where it began. Imagine playing a board game, but every other dice roll moves you backwards. You'll take forever to move around the board, assuming you move at all.
I had high hopes because of the praise and what I heard from people at a law firm, but it's honestly one of the most anti-climatic shows I've ever seen.
It feels like watching teenagers play ding-dong ditch (where they ring someone's doorbell and then run away). Except they only make it to the doorstep before chickening out and leaving. So nothing happens. There's no prank. No danger. No real anything. Just constantly watching the same people do the same things, fail at them, learn nothing, change nothing about their behavior, and then repeat.

I had heard so many good things from reviews but I cannot watch any more after watching four episodes - I can't see it improving.
The unnecessary crudity is just wincing to watch.

We are in a family run business, in the early stages of a succession, so the idea of the story appealed to us, but neither hubby or I could find a single character we liked let alone identified with. We paused the 3rd episode in the last 5mins, for some reason I can't remember, and both agreed that we didn't even want to finish the last few minutes. Constant profanity just because, with thoroughly unlikable people.

Whoever got the idea that stringing together half a dozen 80s cliches would result in a work of genius? The writing has all the originality of a Xerox Machine. I was waiting for someone to call Brian Cox "JR". The soundtrack has the appealing timbre of fingernails on a blackboard. But the acting takes this appalling drivel to new levels. Sarah Snook obviously went to the Millennial School. She doesn't act, she sneers, with a gigantic bum. But who is the prat who went to the Steve Buscemi School? It's bizarre. Why, on God's green earth would anyone attempt to emulate Buscemi?
This show came highly recommended by someone we trust. I am a fan of Brian Cox and Matthew Macfadyen. But watching this show is claustrophobic, depressing, and annoying. Complete lack of character development isnt a "brilliant" tactic to introduce vapid characters. It just compounds the boredom. Lack of sharp dialogue doesn't offer us an incisive searing view into the inner souless minds of the very wealthy and powerful as implied by some reviewers. It's just boring. I'm sorry that some of these actors have to continue in this because I feel like they might agree with me and prefer to move on to something more worthwhile. But oh well "Shirts Off" as they get down to serious business. And yes I do hate every single character but not in any meaningful way. Not enough to suffer through any more episodes. That's not a success when I only care enough to turn this off. Watch Better Call Saul instead where we are moved to feel something for multiple odd ball characters because no real people are as boring as portrayed in this script. Even the very rich! Huge disappointment, this series and every Performance Art piece I was forced to witness in the 80's.

Couldn't finish third episode, the series is a completely no sense of reality, what is made to fit each bizarre character in a kind of comedy tragedy drama. But if you can accept absurdities at any costa to construct a story, maybe you can like it.
Where to start with this 12 step program of minor problems pretensions rather. It is to one's distinct that they may be in the result of the actions of higher forces.. but the insufferable of the actions they make is not to be accept lightly. Particularly what was most disturbing was in the direction the siblings took... not for the other one who was always in thought. But the brutality may as well be incest for the actions to be considered selfless. However it is not a morality that I share interest for it to be the eye to the soul. Many souls did not take them to such sobriety, so why bother? It is not up to us to decide what is on TV but it is on you to choose what is in definition to the masses. I refuse to see to the writer's wishes. Too many mediocre people . I will say it I do not agree to this style but you tread carefully for the best part of this situation in the world and was going through the same thing but it was pretty much the only thing that happened in the past. High rating not earned.

First of all using f word is not humour and those wired unnecessary camera zoom on face is so so irritating. The runtime of episode is too lengthy. Totally a waste of time. Insted of watching this you could re watch any of your favourite other web series. This is one kind of those shows which impressed certain kind of people who think using f words are cool. Like Elite and euphoria and many more. You could watch cult classic shows like BREAKING BAD PRISON BREAK PEAKY BLINDERS AND SO MANY Don't waste your previous time watching this overrated show in this decade..And again I say "Don't believe the good reviews".

Time to speak up. The quick zooms and shaky camera shots are getting old and border on insulting. Every time somebody has something dramatic to say there is an establishing shot of them then a fast go-to quick zoom when they start talking...please stop, we get it, we know who is talking! This is sophomoric filmmaking and the easy way out as far as creativity, your script should be strong enough so you don't have to hold the viewers hand and push them in front of the person talking. Done well the appropriate zoom is important, here its almost comedic, feels like it was pulled out of a bag. The shaky camera, this technique is used to make the viewer feel like they are actually there, done right, subtly and sparingly it can add drama and inclusion to scene, done in excess and poorly it looks like a cheap TV drama, unfortunately in this show its the latter, it feels like you are in a disaster earthquake film.
Shots were all over the framing board and visually disjointed doing an Injustice to the actors, script and most important the viewers.
I would have liked to review the actual show but I couldn't make it pass the cinematography. So an F on the camera work, DP yikes, editors yikes if this was done in post (editing) which it seems like it was because it was done so poorly (meaning key fames in effects can't replace human movement). Regardless it's the directors responsibility and anyone else who let this out the door, they know better. DP and editing I know you can be held hostage so if you wanted to do the right thing and couldn't I understand, peace be with you.
To summarize, I don't write reviews but once in a blue moon, I'm not on a rant or trying to be mean I'm just tired of lazy film making being thrown in our face. I guess too many have passed my eyes and unfortunately this show Is getting the brunt of it. There are plenty of great shows out there that are shot very well, sometimes you just need to speak up when you see a disservice to the industry. Don't get defensive about this review, go back and watch and think about the points made and ask... is this good enough? Your answer should not be a simple one. If this is what you wanted it to look like then I have no words except...attrition.
I am a little disappointed that none of the other reviewers said anything about the visuals, please don't get complacent in your viewing the visuals are so important, you deserve and should expect better. They want you to make due, don't let them get away with it, speak up because you are in charge, they are betting on you to let it slide.
Off the soap box and until next time

In the phenomenal Showtime series "Billions," the intriguing character Taylor Mason repeatedly says that, more than money and power, she always needs "forward momentum." The inferior (and that is being nice) HBO series "Succession" should have heeded that philosophy. When I saw the trailer, I got excited, thinking HBO was going to give us its version of Showtime's hit series. Instead, it gave us a derivative and dull series chock-full of cliches and stereotypes that completely turned me off after 15 minutes of the second episode. The first episode, albeit slow-moving and unexciting, managed to at least hold my interest enough to see what, if anything, would happen next. I thought, 'Maybe this just needs time to build up." But it didn't happen. It was grueling to listen to the boring, pointless and profanity-laced dialogue (could the writing get any worse) that consisted mainly of rival sibling banter over, well, nothing remotely interesting. The great dramatist David Mamet said goog writing is all about "getting there." If there is something to say, say it. Keep the story moving forward at all times. Sell the drama. If you don't have the viewer completely engrossed and immersed in the story in the first 10 to 15 minutes, you're going to lose them, and likely never get them back. I gave this show the benefit of the doubt and gave it 75 minutes, but will never return to it. It's a major fail in every possible way.
