Orson Welles' F for Fake Trailer

This experimental film trailer by the great Orson Welles is either the work of a strange genius (as always with him) or the confusing ramblings of a nutcase.

I say he's a genius because of all the unthinkable things he creates and the unusual manner in which he composes a film trailer for his classic "F for Fake". What's most unusual is that a) this trailer was made three years after the film's release (it wasn't shown in America at the time) and b) it's a nine minutes short film staring Oja Kodar, writer and forger Clifford Irving and archive images from Howard Hughes and Picasso, and almost nothing that is shown appeared on the actual film.

But the challenge from the film is there when Orson invites audiences to see if they can distinguish facts from fiction, what's real and what's fake when he gives us magic tricks, facts and stories on people. It's an intriguing way to sell a project - which is phenomenal by the way. Welles use of abstract imagery, poetry, sound, Oja posing nude with a tiger while the voice over talks about mysteries and stories about paintings of which she was the model (or not, who knows), it all makes for this bande announce/trailer a must see thanks to its artistic values and creativity. 8/10.
