Having just watched six preceding "Madea" movies prior to watching the 2017 movie "Boo 2! A Madea Halloween", I must admit that it was only with the previous 2016 "Boo! A Madea Halloween" movie that things were starting to brighten up, and the movie was heading down a proper comedy path, instead of that pseudo social commentary seriousness that the movies before that had adapted.
And I enjoyed the 2016 "Boo! A Madea Halloween" movie, so I have to admit that I was certainly harboring a certain expectation to the 2017 sequel "Boo 2! A Madea Halloween".
The storyline in the movie was okay, but not quite as entertaining as the one in the 2016 movie. Don't get me wrong here, because I am not saying that the sequel was bad, not at all, but it just lacked something that the previous movie had.
Tyler Perry and Cassi Davis were the only performers I was familiar with. It should be noted, though, that some of the frat students from the 2016 movie also returned to reprise their characters in this sequel, which was a nice touch for continuity. The acting performances in the movie were good.
My rating of writer and director Tyler Perry's 2017 movie "Boo 2! A Madea Halloween" lands on a five out of ten stars.

Another "Madea" movie that I hadn't already seen. But sitting through a Tyler Perry "Madea" movie marathon would rectify that. I have to say, though that I harbored absolutely zero expectations, as the last five movies I've sat through today have been questionable at best.
Writer Tyler Perry finally ditched the serious issues of racism, domestic abuse, etc. From the previous movies, and focused on good old fashioned comedy, with a dash of Halloween horror here. And it was nice, because these movies are better as comedies and for making you laugh, more so than being serious social commentary movies. "Boo! A Madea Halloween" has been the best of the six "Madea" movies I've watched today.
And isn't everything just better with zombies in it? "Boo! A Madea Halloween" has zombies in it, and it worked out nicely.
This 2017 foray into the "Madea" franchise didn't have a whole lot of familiar performers on the cast list. The only familiar faces on the cast list, for me at least, were Tyler Perry and Cassi Davis. The acting performances in "Boo! A Madea Halloween" were fair, as they have been in every single movie.

After having sat through four questionable "Madea" movies today, as part of a Tyler Perry's "Madea" movie marathon, I came to watch the 2013 movie "A Madea Christmas". Sure, I had never heard about the movie prior to today. And after four less than mediocre movies, I was not harboring the biggest of expectations to this particular movie, if I have to be honest.
Writer Tyler Perry put together an okay script and storyline here. It was nice to see that he ventured a bit further away from the serious topics that the previous movies were dealing with, which left more room for some good old fashioned comedy. But it still wasn't sufficient, to be honest. And as for this being a Christmas movie, well it was frightfully devoid of any Christmas spirit.
Aside from Tyler Perry, then the movie had some other familiar faces, with the likes of Chad Michael Murray, Kathy Najimy, Larry the Cable Guy, Anna Maria Horsford and Eric Lively. I will say that the cast ensemble in "A Madea Christmas" certainly deviated from the previous four movies I had just sat through. The acting performances were fair, despite of a subpar script.
