I've been watching regularly Formula 1 since Vettel started winning championships (on and off since Schumacher) - screw Drive to Survive, it got boring haha. He (Vettel) is still one of my favourite drivers because he is a true fan of the sport and showed it a bunch of times.
I don't know Vettels opinion regarding this movie but what I saw, as an avid watcher of the sport but not one that knows all the in and outs of the sport, is that film is a great commercial for Formula 1 and I think that was the point. Not the relationship between Sonny and JP or the relationship between Sonny and Kate. Btw, JP's arc was undercooked and unsatisfying.
I wanted to watch a race on the big screen with Hollywood level sound design and I kinda got that. Left wanting more of it, still. All I got was the spirit of a race plus a bit more, the minimum necessary to satisfy a fan, not a uber-fan. And that's for the best. They will never make a F1 movie for uber-fans. Nobody wants to watch that.
Even Hamilton through this film critics the excessive amount of rules this sport has and through the script he's bending them or ignoring them. We all know that this sport will be a lot more fun without a bunch of its rules.
The film was fun, great to watch on the big screen. The script needed more work, it has clear minuses. Some characters over-used (JP), others under-used (Kaspar). I overall liked it.

It's quite amazing what Leigh is capable of doing with this medium. His actors (here an almost all black cast) are so effortless with their characters you almost believe it's actually them in real life, their interactions are grounded and palpable and their lack of interaction has layers that can be dissected.
I do think Pansy doesn't have it as she wanted it to be because her only role model, her mother, was most likely much more similar to Pansy's sister, Chantelle, also a mother of two daughters. And get this, Pansy's and Chantelles mother was also a sister, as her gravestone dictates. Ciclical.
Her husband and her son are nothing she can relate with...they are not her people. She was scared. It's not in her true nature. Moses wants to fly and Curtley is carrying all the emotions and hardship until it cracked. Sometimes it's not meant to be.

Look, this is a horror movie for parents of little boys. This terrifies me. But Augusto and Michaela showed me strength I never knew it was possible in a human being. George Miller, a doctor, knows exactly what and how it works and directs it perfectly because by the end I'm a new man with a fear erased. Kudos of course to the two main actors. Nick Nolte, with his italian accent and Susan Sarandon with her well-deserved nomination.
In such cases I hate when I see such backlash from people who are supposed to help other people because of bureaucratic b.s., red tape and ethical problems. These children didn't have more to live anyway, why not test directly on them? What extra harm can happen to them? This was exactly the concern of the parents. There is no time to wait and see and test and compare. I hope the same approach can happen in the future with other awful and rare diseases.
