Before there was The wire, Southland, The Closer, The Rookie, and other cop procedurals there was 3rd Watch. It's amazing to discover and watch this in 2023. The show is a snapshot of turn of the century New York, with a stellar soundtrack consisting of hits of the respective time and a stellar cast to boot. It's a good mix of NY police, fire department and Paramedics drama. Great production value, great chemistry of characters, good dialogue and action-filled overall. It's not without its slights quirks though. For whatever reason most if not all main characters go completely off the rails in a quite unrealistic manner - perhaps in an attempt to fill 22 episode seasons with drama without filler episodes. Still, given the fact that it started in 1999, it's an absolute gem and stands the test of time as one of the greats for me. The 3rd Watch walked so that the other series of the genre that followed could run. And of course, Bosco!

If ur reading these comments like I did before watching the show pay attention... WATCH IT!!! My friend has the shows on tape and I am finishing the entire show over the last several months and I gotta say it an incredible show. My feelings are the only way u make that many episodes (120+) is with high quality writing and characters u really end up caring about. I dare anyone to watch this show and not fall in love with Bosco played by Jason Wiles. Loved Faith, his partner, and Cruz who plays a great renegade character who u can't decide if u respect or hate with each episode!! I personally LOVE shows with story arcs and underlying story lines that last half a season to multiple seasons.

If u love great characters, interesting plot lines, and just plain good drama u'll check this show out!! Like I always said about another of my favorites "Homicide" the worst of the episodes is better then 80% of whats on t.v. currently!!

As Paramedic/Cop/Firefighter shows go, this is one of the best I have seen. The cast chosen do an amazing job with their parts; Molly Price and Jason Wiles play off of each other spectacularly. The show its self gives a good view into the daily job of a Paramedic and Officer; the struggles they endure in the job itself and how it effects their personal lives. Most shows get caught up in the personal aspect, but this one focus more on their daily jobs; showing how they save people on a daily basis. The only downfall is that it can get exhausting after awhile with the fast pace of the show. But I highly recommend it if you have an interest in watching show about Paramedics, cops and firefighters!

Its very annoying that only seasons 1-3 are available for purchase!!! There were 6 seasons that aired!

Third Watch is a great show. I have been waiting for so long for it to become available on DVD! Does anyone know why the DVDs are available in Japan and not is the U.S.? I don't plan on doing anything on Fridays because that is Third Watch Night in my house. Even as some characters leave or die and new ones are introduced, my family has remained loyal to it. When it was on Mondays, my husband gave up an hr of watching MNF to watch 3rd Watch. If there is anyone out there who reads this and can do anything to help bring it to DVD, PLEASE HELP! With so many other crappy shows out of DVD after a season (uh..Nick & Jessica?) how can anyone let this show go on this long without releasing it on DVD!?

I loved this show. I lived to watch this show every week. It had action, compassion, love, hate, thrills, you name it. Why was this show taken off the air? My god. They leave the soap operas on for years and years and then you get a wonderful show like this and they take it off. I don't understand. There was never a dull moment on this show. Always something going on. I sure wish they would start it up again. It would be sooooo great. I always wanted Bosco to hook up with Faith. Now that would have been so great. They had a chemistry going. That let me down when they did not at least kiss. You know they wanted to...haha Sad in Louisiana, Linda

Watching THIRD WATCH is like reading a good book I just can't put down. I'm not one to "get hooked" on programs, like soaps, but THIRD WATCH got me good! I only wish I'd seen the original airings. I don't want to miss a single episode of this action packed series. The viewer is drawn in to the actors' characters causes and effects. The lives of the characters are deeply affected by their jobs as fire fighters, police person, or paramedics. The cast are excellent actors and perfect choices for their characters. It's difficult to pick a favorite character as all the interactions and relationships are just perfect. I can't say enough good about this drama, except it's terrible it was canceled after the 6th season. However, give everyone involved with the program credit for putting an ending to the series. Knowing the ending doesn't made a difference with wanting to watch the previous episodes.

Loved the show so much when it initially aired, I was in high school and along with ER this show made me want to work in emergency. I've recently started watching it again as it's on Samsung tv plus and 7 plus in Australia and they have all 6 seasons.

The show holds up so well I think in part because computers and technology aren't often seen so it doesn't feel super old compared to some other 90's show. The characters aren't politically correct so you wouldn't see them in a show today burning Bosco was and is still the best character!!! He is so entertaining! Jimmy is so nice on the eyes too! The storyline's are real and raw.

If you've never watched give it a go I guarantee you'll love it. If you haven't watched since 2005 I recommend rewatching it's just so entertaining and still better than 90% of todays shows.

Rewatching this after a long time. It was really great show for a time with fantastic characters. It genuinely had a NY feel too. However, what I liked about TW is what they ended up destroying. I will never understand why they did away with the paramedics/firefighters/cops set up they had going. By S4 it was mainly a cop show. As much as I liked the cop characters, watching a straight police drama was not why I became a fan of the show. Seasons 1-3 were great and the characters relatable. The last couple of seasons the storylines were ridiculous and the addition of Cruz terrible. It was no longer recognizable as the same show from the earlier seasons, so I'm not surprised it got canceled, though 6 seasons is a good run.

I used to watch this with my mom who was a retired police officer and she said no other show nailed the reality better than this one. The stories and characters were handled so well and never one dimensional. I laughed, I cried, I was left with an impact. The fact that there were real firemen and officers in the show definitely shone through. I can't believe it only lasted 6 seasons, I'd still be watching it if it were on. Of all the shows that deserve a revival, this one is the most. So glad I found all seasons on Roku, in case you're looking for it.

From the season I could get my hands on. The characterizations are spot on, the drama, action and humor even, gets you. I remember discovering the show on that 8th season ER episode, and loved every bits of it. Granted it's not brand new, but I think all those current procedural, medical and cop dramas, all copied everything from shows that used to air the same time Third Watch did. So take your pick. Personally, I prefer « old » shows like these, that knew how to tell stories and characters lives, without forcing things. And bring up genuine emotions with the right line, delivery or music. Even if it pushes your buttons. The DVD collection stopped at season two... But I'd rather that than those obnoxious replacement music on the remaining seasons set. Or streaming editions.

This is a short review but without question this is the BEST POLICE SHOW EVER. That says it all !!!!!!!

I liked S-1, like I'd give it an "8" for the stories and character development. But in S-2 the format changes and in every episode some character gets a dream sequence usually related to childhood with a narration overlap. The change is considerable and makes the show to "sappy" in my view. 2 seasons is all you get and all you ever will due to music copyright issues So enjoy, but if I could go back I wouldn't buy S-2.

Third watch is a great show. It's nice to have something to watch that isn't so predicable and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Let's all be honest...there's a lot of crap on t.v. therefore, third watch is a life saver 10/10

What an absolutely amazing show!!! I followed it religiously! Great, creative writers, talented actors, amazing consistency, great medical accuracy combined with amazing attention to detail made Third Watch unique. Captivating story lines mixing the absolute extreme with normal everyday issues. Realistic, multidimensional, diverse characters from various age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds showing the different complex relationships they had with one another and how they And the relationships changed over time. I love the raw human emotions this show evoked. The humour injected was intelligent. I loved how the story lines tied together. I was so disappointed when this show came off the air. Glad to know there is still a large fan base. I still think I must be one of the shows biggest fans!

I was a big fan of "Third Watch" years ago when it was on, and I recently watched all 6 seasons on Roku (where you can watch it for free!). I was thrilled to see it there because I hadn't seen it anywhere in years, which is a shame. This was easily one of the best TV shows ever made.

The original cast was fantastic. From a female's point of view, it had some of the best looking men on it too... Eddie Cibrian, Coby Bell, Bobby Cannavale, and Jason Wiles to name a few... Michael Beach is one of the best actors I've ever seen on TV, and Skipp Sudduth and Molly Price were terrific as well.

By far my favorite relationship on the show was between Bosco and Faith. What's interesting is, in many ways, Bosco was the REAL love of her life, even though they were never romantically involved. But he mattered to her in such a way, that he often came above her own family (such as her useless husband, played well by Chris Bauer). And despite Bosco acting like one of her children at times, he always put her first.

I loved the relationship between Sully and Davis as well. And I always thought that Kim (Raver) had an embarrassment of riches when it came to men on that show (her on-screen relationships with both Jimmy and Bobby).

There are some very sad moments, such as "Doc's" breakdown, and several deaths that I won't mention here for spoiler purposes. I also never liked Amy Carlson (very wooden!!) and Tia Texada's (very over-bearing) characters. But overall, the characters are very real and likable... even deliberately unlikable ones like Carlos, still worked.

From what I heard, one of the reasons this show stopped after 6 seasons is because it was too costly to continue filming them in NYC (watch even ONE episode and you'll see WHY!!). It's tragic to see what's happened to the once great city of New York (I've lived here my whole life and remember 9/11 like it was yesterday), and in particular, this country's perception of the police since this showed first aired over 20 years ago. But for anyone who dislikes the police, this series really shows you their struggles and portrays them in a very ACCURATE way-- both the good and the bad. Also, the way they tie in the paramedics and firefighters is very good. Some of the best episodes involve them all working together.

The whole point of this show, is to give people an accurate view into the lives of police, firefighters, and paramedics (in fact it was mainly written by a former police officer and firefighter!). So I hope a new generation of people can still get to watch this series and learn a lot. I had also forgotten how suspenseful 99% of the episodes are... where you can't WAIT to see the next one. The only other show I ever felt that way about was "The Sopranos." So I give "Third Watch" a 10 out of 10 and wish to God it was still on. (Because it's a nice change from the politically correct "crap" {to quote Sully!! LOL} that's on now. This show is a lesson in TRUE diversity, having characters of all different races/backgrounds, without it being forced or shoved down anyone's throat.)

I do not usually watch TV shows which are longer than a couple of episodes as I hate to be tied up but this one really got me stuck. Here in Malta I watch it on Italian TV, two episodes which start at 2.30am and end at 4.30am and still it is all worth it. Forget Lost and Prison Break which have promising starts but then end up boring you to death, Third Watch is a real masterpiece and the characters really get you involved especially Boscorelli and Yokas. This show also gives a touch of reality of what its like to be a police officer in NY and the toll this job can have on one's private life. Well done to all those involved in this masterpiece of a show.

An edge of your seat ride from beginning to end. It succeeds at keeping everything exciting and fresh by mixing officers of the NYPD with firefighters and paramedics of the FDNY. Other shows, before and since, focus on one of these groups and therefore become repetitive and predictable. Third Watch allows every actor/actress to shine with episodes that split time between characters and focus solely on certain characters in a natural way.

I watched the original airings of every season with my family when I was younger. I recently found it again streaming on Roku for free. I convinced my wife to watch the first 2 episodes (the series premiere was a two parter) and that's all it took. We finished the series finale less than an hour ago and it was just as emotional as it was when I first saw it in 2005. This show stands the test of time. If there is a show that deserves a revival, it's this one.

I've often wondered why Third Watch is only on DVD in Asia, but I'm told by some connected friends it has to do with copyright and royalty issues with the music. Since Third Watch has mainstream music by big, established artists, they need to pay them more to use the music on DVD. Asia has more lax laws governing this. A good example of this is the Married... With Children DVDs. Notice the theme song "Love and Marriage" is replaced by some generic keyboard music? Other shows didn't have this problem, as there were fewer artists and songs used (Like Tour of Duty - Most in-show music was original scores, and the theme song "Paint it Black" was and always will be connected to Tour of Duty). Once they pay the artists, we'll get our DVDs. Oh, btw - Third Watch introduced this old rocker to The Crystal Method (Theme song Keep Hope Alive, also used in the Tomb Raider movies, but will ALWAYS be identified as the Third Watch theme. Best recording ever of this tune is on the Family Values Tour '99 CD, recorded live in Biloxi, Mississippi). I say "NBC, pay the artists/labels/whoever the money, I guarantee you'll profit huge when you release the DVDs! Then, sell the show to a movie studio, and make a Third Watch feature film, using the cast from the final episode!"

I'm with others....this was/is an amazing show...NBC really dropped the ball with this, at least give us the DVD!!

I happened to catch Third Watch by chance during its 5th season, while randomly flipping through channels, during the episode "A Call for Help". I instantly fell in love with this show and began watching it almost religiously. The acting was raw, and this was honestly good TV. I have seen every episode of this series. I thought it would live on even through A&E but we've been robbed of that too. I am still in love with this show, and I support the actors as well, I check up on IMDb what their into and I make sure to catch the episode/movie etc. Third Watch is awesome and I will forever be a fan.

I'm not sure which show the other posts are referring to. Certainly not the Third Watch I saw.

The Third Watch I saw was over-the-top, badly made, and with mostly terrible acting.

In particular, Kim Raver was obnoxiously annoying with her lack of acting skills. But only Skipp Sudduth and a couple of other regulars were any good anyway, so she had company.

The soapiness reminded me of the worst of ER, not the best and the writing was anything but stellar, again reminding me of the worst scripts written by john Wells for ER (after season 5).

In any case, a show I really don't miss.

Third Watch is a fast paced, enjoyable show that I hope will stick around. I have to agree with another reviewer that NBC has jerked this show around by moving it around the schedule. What are they going to do in fall 2000--when Monday night football comes back? Anyway, I feel that ER has run its course and this show has the makings of picking up the "high adrenaline show" mantle and running off with it. Good show!

I always liked this show when it was on the air originally. I am not certain that I watched every episode but if not at least pretty close.

Twenty years later, when it showed up on Tubi. I thought I would watch again but this time with my wife. Sometimes, I find that something you thought was really good as time passes and you visit it again it was not what you thought it to be.

But after viewing the last episode, I believe this show was even better than I thought it to be originally. My wife loved it as well.

I always loved Sully. I have a novel in front of a publisher now and there is a cop that the MC forms a relationship with. The MC tells the cop he reminds him of Sully on Third Watch. Makes sense I would write that considering my first draft of this book was around twenty years ago. I am glad the show is streaming now so it makes a little more sense in my manuscript.

Was Third Watch the forerunner for shows like Chicago Fire, PD, Med? I watch all those shows and enjoy them but after viewing Third Watch again. Third Watch is better.

Great characters. Love the dynamics with Faith and Bosco.

I don't know what has happened but, they don't make shows like this anymore. I have just been rewatching Third Watch in 2023 and it still stands up 23 years later. It is everything I love, it is gritty dark and super entertaining. It is a lot like the TV show 911. It has fire, police and paramedics. What makes it different than shows of today is that not everything turned out rosey and not everyone ends up living. Some of the dialogue 23 years ago would not be considered appropriate today, there are sexual and racists remarks made left, right and centre. It is also filmed in New York which makes everything look grittier than it would be if filmed elsewhere.

When third watch first came out on1999 I had started to watch it and loved it, but since I had young kids, kind of didn't watch much TV and went about life.

I recently noticed that the show was on ROKU and started watching it every day I tell you it is an amazing show the cast is everything, the scenes, their courage their compassion the way it felt so much like real family I truly got hooked on the show and didn't want it to end. I laughed,cried worried and was on the edge of my seat in some scenes never got so attached to a show but as I go through for my own things I guess I felt connected.

To the ones who made it and the ones who acted in it just know you all are so Amazing God bless you all and your families I'm one your biggest fans!!!!
