I like horror films to make me jump or scream. This one did. Yes, it's the same basic premise we've seen many times in this type of movie, but the plot isn't really what I watch these movies for. Also, there's plenty of new twists/elements in this one. This movie really had me cheering for the "good guys" - I was glad I'd watched it by myself, as the last 20 minutes or so really had me screaming at the TV, cheering the kids on. I really enjoyed watching this movie, and am buying a copy to share with my horror loving friends. Backwoods was apparently produced for Spike TV, so don't expect to see much in the way of blood and gore. (Needless to say, there's no nudity whatsoever.) Some old-fashioned traps make the chase scenes through the forest somewhat interesting, but I pretty much relied on Haylie Duff's hotness to get me through the film's 80 minute runtime (although I must admit I got quite a kick out of watch a mortally wounded techie put on an amazing show of shooting bad guys without even aiming.) If you're a horror fan, Backwoods is certainly a watchable film, but you won't see anything here you haven't seen before.

This movie was absolutely terrifying. I'm sure it'll run through my mind when I drive through some of those back-woods places. The characters were grotesque and I don't think I'll *ever* watch this movie again, but it served its purpose. I don't know whether it was a cold room or getting the bejesus scared out of me, but i shivered quite a bit. Right off hand I'm gonna tell that this movie isn't anything you haven't seen before. It has a typical horror movie set up: a bunch of young people in the woods in the backcountry of some state who run into a bunch of psychos who want to hunt them down and butcher them. If you're thinking " wow, that sounds a lot like the Texas Chain Saw Massacre", well, you'd be thinking right. There's even a gas station scene with a weird creepy hick. But I'm not trying to convey the message that is a Chain saw Massacre rip-off. Texas Chain Saw Massacre was awesome, so I see no problem in people wanting to make more movies like it. But anyways, Backwoods offers nothing new to genre, it's just a plain good ole slice 'em and dice 'em popcorn horror flick. It's not trying to be exceptional, it's just trying be a horror film with enough blood, gore and thrills to suffice any horror fan for the 84 duration time, and in that context, it succeeds.

I first discovered "Backwoods" when I was scanning through my TV late one night and saw it on a movie channel. I had never heard of it but read the info on my television guide and decided to give it a try. I am a sucker for a good scary film and I was not at all disappointed by "Backwoods". The scenes are excellently directed and acted, the action is bone-chilling, and the suspense of it all will leave you breathless. If your a fan of films like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Wrong Turn", "Hills Have Eyes" you will love "Backwoods." This film, which was a huge hit when it was released on TV. I just had to purchase this movie on Amazon and I encourage everyone else too! You'll love it

I was really surprised by this movie. It's very difficult to find a good horror movie that focuses on one plot and stays on track ( without being distracted by the blonde naked victim running through the woods ) This movie doesn't waste any time, it goes right to the action . Haylie Duff is a wonderful, great actress that fitted in the role perfectly. It's unexpectedly better than the trailers (as it often happens with good movies). My husband and I both thought this was one of the best movies we've seen in a long time. Haylie Duff was meant for this role! The plot was. There was no boring pause in it like you find in some movies. I would recommend this DVD to everyone.

I don't want to give away anything about this movie. I'll just say that I love horror movies and have seen quite a few, but none of them disturbed me more than this movie. It wasn't exactly a "scary" movie exactly, but it was definitely a well made movie. I haven't seen the original, so maybe that made it a more positive experience for me.

One reviewer gave the movie 1 star, for the same reason I gave the movie 5 stars. "This movie was so deranged and sadistic. It was awful! To think someone would even want to make something like this is awful. Now I remember why I don't watch 21st century horror movies because they keep getting worse and worse!" I agree recent horror movies have gotten worse, which is why I was so pleased with this movie, finally something that doesn't disappoint.

This was a movie that I was proud to say was made in this day and age. It Was almost as good as Wrong Turn. I couldn't even decide really. Everything was much more with gore because of the technology now it was good because it was so disturbing you could feel the hook in your back just as the victims in the movie did. I honestly love the whole story about the sick and twisted family taking innocent people not just for killing but for food. The son also takes the women and breeds them and gets them pregnant to make the cult bigger. Its gross. This movie sold fast at our local Walmart so I decided to buy it off Amazon and I'm glad I did.

Honestly...I have to say..I really liked this movie. I thought it wrenched up the thrills even better than the first. I mean, jump scares literally occur about every five minutes (but not in an annoying way). I thought I wouldn't really care about them as much because they weren't a family, but all of the actors did a great job at making you feel for them. I mean, most of the time, you didn't know their name until they died, but who cares? It doesn't mean the movie wasn't good. Another good note was that ALL the kills were extremely gory and I have to say that more often than not, I was not expecting them to happen when they did. I also had a terrible time trying to pick who would die next...but that made the movie much more enjoyable.

Very few films have ever been a hit when they go directly to DVD release, but "Backwoods" was a certified smash upon its release in 2008. The film features a bunch of young people going into the outback to do a paintball series, who go against each other in the woods. Eventually one by one these people are killed by crazed in-breeders living in isolation in the wilderness, kinda similar to "Wrong Turn" and "Hills Have Eyes" but the people in this movie are a big cult. The movie is pure escapist fun and if you love horror films "Backwoods" will satisfy your appetite for blood, guts, and gore. The movie is among one of the best I've seen and the acting was incredible, especially from Haylie Duff. 10/10

this is a good movie to watch with a bunch of friends. It's not extremely scary just a bunch of suspenseful moments. It's not really the type of movie that will make you say that was so scary. more like man that was so awesome. plus Haylie Duff is fine as hell. Anyways i recommend at least renting this movie its pretty fun. There were times when you knew what was going to happen (like in most movies), but it still scared me at times! The ending was really good too. I can't wait this director come up with another movie in this gender. I definitely..Look for his next movie in the further for sure!, don't miss it!! A+

Backwoods Is one of the best straight to video horror movies and especially sequels I have seen. The gore is abundant and the effects are very well done. Haylie Duff is the stand out in the cast of good actors.. I loved Wrong Turn & Hills Have Eyes and had reservations about liking this one but it did not disappoint in the least.The characters were likable and the mutants were taken to a new level by adding female monstrosities and incestuous siblings. I have watched it about 4 times already and will watch it many more times . When I find a slasher movie especially a slasher in the woods movie I like from this era I'm so pleased because I'm a big fan of the early 80's slashers but every once in awhile a new movie comes out that satisfies me like this movie. Don't listen to the haters ..It's a great slasher flick. I actually like this one better than the first because it's unapologetically politically incorrect and oozes in your face gore and carnage.
