Something is very off about this show.

First of all, even though they managed to make the actors look quite similar to the real people, the way they perform is always a tiny bit tongue in cheek, so that you never quite forget they're acting. This is especially true for the guy playing Tommy, who looks more like a kid in a candy store, than a heavy metal rocker.

Also, the characters are all made to be much more sad and pathetic than they are in reality, just so that you're supposed to pity them. If for example you compare the talkshow segment of the series where Pamela visits Jay Leno, with the actual recording of the real Jay Leno show, it becomes instantly obvious how much this series is turning her into a poor, poor, poor thing that barely even manages to whisper a few words, because she is soooooooo devastated by this ordeal. In the real life recording of the Jay Leno show (you can find it on Youtube) she speaks loud and clear with self-confidence and karisma, all in all being a much more likable person than the sad sap in this series.

And then there's the strange soundtrack which consists of a lot of songs that were popular at the time when this all went down, but never correlates with whatever is happening in the script. It's like the filmmakers are saying: "Remember how The Cranberries' song 'Zombie' was big in the 90s?" And that's the only reason why that tune is there, even though it really conveys a completely different mood to what is going on in the story.

Finally, the lackluster direction leaves a lot to be wanted. For example, one episode is all about Pam & Tommy partying it up, without it ever feeling as cool or fun as the filmmakers must have thought it did.

All in all, this series probably sounded much better on paper.

Uninteresting story told in an uninteresting way

It was pretty poor attempt at telling a story that really doesn't need to be told. It's just boring. Honestly if they made this into a single movie, it's still boring. Plus the show was retcon of history which is even weirder. Tommy lee was arrested twice for domestic abuse during this timeframe and the agreed to have single showings of the tape. She made other tapes too and even dated a guy involved in the Paris Hilton tape. The sudden victim narrative is forcing modern values on historic events without context and it falls flat. It's just a bizarre retell of something no one cares about that much to begin with. The first episode was legitimately entertaining and the cast was near perfect. I say near because, who called Rogan in for this? He didn't contribute anything and didn't even look like the real guy. Everything he touches is worse for having him in it. He can not act but for some reason every time they need a middle aged loser his phone rings. Shop around guys. It was mediocre and long winded but I guess had a couple redeeming qualities.

Well then...

This is the cringiest stuff I have ever seen. Plus a lot of stuff was left out of their story. Not mention of the fact that tommy was engaged when he started seeing Pam. Plus they had met before the club depicted in this movie. Pam approached tommy and his fiancé Bobbie Brown, and tried to put moves on him which was their first encounter. I just don't where they came up with some of this stuff. Was a HARD watch.

Terribly boring

This has all the makings of being an amazing show but in the end it is just a boring story about boring people. You know it's rough when the most compelling character is a gross middle-aged fat man played by Seth Rogen. I had more fun waiting for websites to load in the mid 90s then I did watching this show.

Cannot stand him

I was rooting for the carpenters as far as Tommy. With Pam, I think she's too kind and often put up with a lot of bs. This often portrays her as a dummy, though.

Comical and lightly entertainingly

First of all, Lily plays horribly. Pam is portrayed as blonde airhead with no backbone. Not exactly how she/Pam is in real life. Tommy Lees need more character and not this comical persona.

People still care about this?...

Another show about famous people that I care little about that's trying to convince me that everything portrayed in it is definitely what happened. I'm always amazed at just how long normal people continue to care about celebrity scandals. It's been over 20 years and people still actually care about the sex tape these two idiots produced.

Look to be honest I stopped watching when I realised the show was blaming the sex tape for the decline of Pams career. That woman would be exactly where she is now without the tape ever having left their house.

It got even worse when they started milking the heavy feminist angle of poor playboy model gets treated like she was asking for it because she poses nude for money.

So yeah didn't see the last few episodes, don't think it was that many? Maybe 2? At most, and I also care very little about what happened in those episodes.

The only entertaining character was the carpenter, and that was only because it was hilarious watching him decline in sanity and intelligence as the show progressed. He somehow started out at average adult intelligence and ended up being so way below that line that it was hard to swallow sure, but still funny to watch.

Exploitation at its best

Garbage TV. The 4 stars are for the actors very talented. Too trashy for my taste. Some things Should be left alone and in private. Find better content.

Less than expected

Was expecting something on Pam and Tommy but hey it wasn't there. Seth played a great friend, not far from himself. I am glad the video had become a copied treasure to alot of people. The their did not deserve a cent, he was the one who did not stand up for himself. Could have been much better.

Men are bad

Men are bad, that is the theme here. It was ok, but Pan was super annoying and made it hard to watch. And all the male bashing sucked. But they had alot of good parts as well and it was cool learning about what happened in a bit more detail. Also I should say the actress that played Pam was amazing, very talented. But the Pam character was annoying.
