Season 3, episode 8, watched 3 seasons in 2 days, it's so much fun and addictive! Love the characters, love the storyline and love the music! It's indeed the soap opera of sitcoms as you want to know what happens next and how the storyline develops. The characters are endearing, lovable, funny, outrageous, crazy and sad. It will make you laugh, it will get you peed off, it will get you singing and a bit teary eyed! Another 2 seasons to go. Can't wait to see the rest of the episodes! Typical British sense of humor, but even if you don't understand it, you will love it! A must if you're a Brit or living in Britain and a great watch if you love British series.
I found Mount Pleasant cast to be whiners with screeching voices. Plus I can't stand shows where in-laws just barge in and have no common sense. Every minute seemed to be people arguing.
Not having looked up the actors or the creators though, The series feels like a B series show, or like a soap opera of the sitcoms. Maybe the actors usually star in such movies, maybe the director has a hand for that genre. But the mix of working class people and their jobs, serious problems that they have and comical situations that are not instant, but diluted throughout the entire episodes sure gives that feeling of programmed fun. Programmed to be understood by everybody, to stir some empathy in the tired employee watching in the evening, in the younger and naive office girl, in the retired couple who occupy their late years trying not to remain out of touch with the modern world. It vaguely triggers memories of Peep Show, probably because of the suffocating office world feeling. It is much more traditional, yet not dumb, so far. It remains to be seen where is it going, because this closed universe and tiny everyday issues are starting to seem tiring.
Is everyone an alcoholic on this show? Maybe I'm used to watching shows here in the US but it's rare to see this much constant heavy drinking in any comedy/drama like this genre.
None of the characters can seemingly do anything without either a beer or glass of wine in their hand. Or a shot, or a margarita, or vodka. It's ridiculous. The only exception I can see is maybe Lisa's parents who are delightful. As is the intelligent neighbor guy. Snappy dialogue as well and quirky story arcs.
I've really enjoyed Lisa in Madame Blanc. She's much better utilized there. The nonstop booze turned me off on this one, tho, so moving on.
