Firestarter with an imaginary friend doing the heavy lifting.
This is a definite melange of tropes. A trans-pubescent girl with increasing control of death-dealing rage motivated powers trying to escape The Bad Men. This movie draws from an obvious directors favourite, the 1980s Firestarter (with Dreamscape added for good measure) and does a good job of it too. Although the scripting could have been sharper and the Aunt given a firmer, more defined role the story itself follows nicely along conventional lines. Annoying people get 'visited', the escapes are awesome and Madison effectively oscillates from frantic to ice cold as required by circumstances.
Even with the similarities with the Stephen King and Dennis Quaid classics this movie can stand on its own and delivers an entertaining and thrilling watch that makes you want to know what comes next. Recommended.
