Malayalam movie Ronth what a neatly crafted police story just mind blowing.👌👌👌
It's a story of 2 simple cops who work on a night shift patrolling and what all issues and cases they face is the plot and next day how it changes their life is shown.
In today's malayalam cinema cop related movies are shown very realistic no stylish approach, no big bang entry , no mass dailogue and all just being simple and realistic. The credit goes to the writer and director Shahi Kabir.
Shahi khabir is now one of the best writers in malayalam cinema and all his movies are worth watching and best of the best . Nayattu, Eratta, Joseph , Officer on Duty All these movies gave different perspective and stories of a police Officer. Ronth movie will also be in the list of one of the best thriller movies to watch starring Dileesh Pothan Roshan Mathew .
Was suprised to see Lakshmi Menon .She was brilliant ..a excellent journey from.reels to reality movies ..well done.
Excellent performance by all the actors how these 2 cops Dileesh and Roshans character explore the traumatic events and deepest fears that they have to deal in their professional life they have done full justice to those characters.
A brilliant story that is hard hitting especially the climax scene. . If you love police stories, crime thrillers then it's a must must watch.

Cop stories are always a matter of stylish approach, and maverick dialogues blend with the mass appeal of a star. It's the common notion that we (especially Indian films) follow from the past. But when we look into today's Malayalam cinema, the cop related subject seems to be more realistic, where we feel that it is directly showing the routine or the work behind the police force. There is no over portrayal of anything. Nayattu, Eratta, Joseph, Ila veezha poonjira, etc, are some of those kinds of films. The new outcome from the Malayalam film industry, Ronth, can also be attributed to the above category. It's a simple cop story revolving around two police officers, Yohannan (Dileesh Pothan) and Dinnath (Roshan Mathew). Yohannan is a veteran, an experienced police officer, and Dinnath is a newbie, who is inexperienced. Ronth means that Patrolling is the basic idea or plot of the story. These two police officers are subjected to doing their night patrolling, and in the course of that night, they encounter many incidents, and one of the incidents negatively impacts them, which leads to chaos in their lives. I don't want to spoil the film because it is running successfully in theatres. Apart from their professional diaspora, the two police officers are emotionally bound to their families. Yohannan's wife Salomi is mentally retarded so he keeps her happy all the time and also do the household chores. He loves Salomi deeply, and it is evident all over the film. On the other side, Dinnath is living in police quarters with his wife, daughter (3-5 age), and his mother. His daughter is suffering from fever, and that is the sentimental element that works there. These two simple police officers are doing their job and confront many on a single night leads them and shatters their lives. Shahi Kabir's writing and direction were top-notch, which always put the audience into the atmosphere of Yohannan and Dinnath. We can choose whom we are inclined to. The tragic incident happened in a small course of time, will disturb us and follow us for a couple of days, like me.
Another hard-hitting episode in the life of a police officer.
Shahi Kabir once again excels in portraying police procedures with gripping realism, much like in his previous ventures. His writing captures the nuances of law enforcement with precision and authenticity. As seen in his previous works, his writing doesn't just sketch the surface-it dives deep into the psychological and systemic layers of law enforcement, offering a portrait that is both authentic and unsettling.
Dileesh Pothan delivers a standout performance-subtle yet deeply impactful-worthy of award recognition. Roshan too gives his best, contributing solidly to the film's emotional and narrative weight.

Ronth (2025) is one of the best Malayalam films I've seen in the last 25 years. The story is gripping, the mood intense, and it lingers long after. Dileesh Pothan is simply outstanding-effortless, raw, and deeply emotional. Honestly, he's the best actor right now when it comes to pulling off layered emotions. Not exaggerating-he's delivering performances that go beyond even legends like Mohanlal and Mammootty today. His screen presence and emotional depth are unmatched. The writing by Shahi Kabir is sharp, grounded, and adds real weight to the narrative. A rare gem that proves how powerful Malayalam cinema can be.
To me, Ronth felt like the cinematic equivalent of the iPhone's Portrait Mode-the way it creates a sharp focus on the subject while softly blurring the background. Shahi Kabir achieves the same "depth-of-field" effect in storytelling, bringing Dileesh Pothan, Roshan Mathew, and Lekshmi Menon into sharp emotional focus. Their performances truly penetrate the screen and demand attention.
This film stands out for its realistic and grounded portrayal of the Kerala Police. It's one of the rare films that offers a clean, authentic look into the life and routine of a policeman-without overdramatization or distortion.
Dileesh Pothan and Roshan Mathew deliver solid, believable performances. They own their roles with the natural talent we've come to expect from them. But the real surprise was Lekshmi Menon. Her performance was extraordinary-deep, authentic, and emotionally layered. It makes one wonder why the Malayalam film industry hasn't tapped into her full potential before. This could very well be her breakthrough, and I genuinely hope to see her in more roles that allow her to shine.
However, I was personally let down by the tragic climax. It left some plot points unresolved, and I found myself wishing Shahi Kabir had opted for an open-ended finish-one that gave the audience space for interpretation. Instead, it leans toward a somber closure that felt a little too final for a story that had so many emotional layers.
Still, Ronth is a commendable effort and a fresh take in Malayalam cinema.
