Image
Ryan Reynolds is lending his signature voice and wit to National Geographic’s Underdogs. The docuseries shines a light on the unsung heroes in the Animal Kingdom that often get overlooked by the proverbial cool kids in school such as elephants, lions, gorillas, and sharks. Who better to narrate each of the five episodes than Deadpool himself?! Reynolds is no stranger to the recording booth, working on everything from Great Bear Rainforest to The Croods, and let’s not forget, Detective Pikachu. Each installment of Underdogs centers on a certain subgroup or overarching theme starting with the June 15 premiere spotlighting “Superzeroes” and “Terrible Parents” As one would imagine with the Hollywood A-lister involved, this isn’t your typical educational doc. Should ‘Jeopardy!’ & ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Switch Time Slots? Fans Have Their Say
Image
Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have always been synonymous with each other, airing back-to-back on weeknights in most places. They also always compete in ratings. But, because the game shows are syndicated, they don’t have specific air times or channels, so in different parts of America, they sometimes air in different orders. And sometimes they don’t air one right after the other. Reddit users wondered what other fans like better — Jeopardy!, hosted by Ken Jennings, airing first, or Wheel of Fortune? Most markets have one airing at 7pm and then next at 7:30pm, but it varies in different parts of the country. “7:00 or 7:30. Do you think Jeopardy! works better at 7:00 before Wheel of Fortune or at 7:30 after Wheel of Fortune? For me, it’s always been Jeopardy! at 7:00 and Wheel at 7:30,” the original poster asked. “I’ve always lived in a Wheel-then-Jeopardy!

Kim Cattrall: My ‘Sex and the City’ Character Samantha Is Not a ‘Nymphomaniac’
Image
Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones knows good sex, and isn’t afraid to ask. But does that make the iconic “Sex and the City” character a “nymphomaniac”? Not quite.

Cattrall told The Times that she still disagrees with some audience reactions to the beloved role. Cattrall starred as publicist Samantha in six seasons of “Sex and the City” from 1998 to 2004, and reprised the role for the 2008 and 2010 movies. She later made a cameo in the Season 2 finale of revival series “And Just Like That” in 2023.

Samantha was arguably the on-screen epitome of sex-positivity before the term even existed as a colloquialism. And...

Which Titan Disaster Documentary Should You Watch? Discovery & Netflix’s OceanGate Docs Compared
Image
It’s another tale of dueling documentaries released in rapid succession. We’ve seen it before with prior headline-grabbing events like Fyre Festival, the Thailand cave kid rescues, and the Murdaugh murders, to name a few. This time, there are back-to-back new documentaries on the subject of the Titan submersible implosion disaster available to audiences. Discovery’s Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster aired (and dropped on HBO Max) on May 28, and Netflix’s Titan: The OceanGate Submersible hit the streamer on June 11. Both documentaries take us inside the rooms where OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush made the fateful decisions that would lead to himself and four others — including a teenager — being instantly killed when the carbon fiber vessel they were riding in collapsed under the pressure of the ocean during their trip to visit the ruins of the Titanic. So which of the two documentaries is the most worth watching? Here...

‘Grantchester’: Robson Green Previews Geordie’s Struggles in Season 10
Image
Throughout its first nine seasons, Grantchester has had three vicars and dozens of murders — but only one Robson Green. The veteran actor, who was cast in the eleventh hour to play one of the show’s two leads, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, has been wearing his character’s signature brown suit since 2014, and as Season 10 of the Masterpiece series kicks off on PBS on June 15, he has no plans to hang it up. “It’s lovely when you go back to the Grantchester family,” says an enthusiastic Green. Now an executive producer on the show, Green was only available in the first place due to unfortunate circumstances. He had been shooting the thriller series Strike Back in Thailand in 2014 when production was shut down after cast member Sullivan Stapleton was seriously injured off set. “I rang my agent and said, ‘Get me anything, I need the work.’ I was in a pretty sticky situation financially,...

Colbert Says Trump’s Brain Is ‘Wet Bread’ After President Fails to Answer Simple Question
Image
Stephen Colbert described Donald Trump‘s brain as “wet bread” on Thursday’s (June 12) episode of The Late Show as the president struggled to answer a simple question about the musical Les Misérables. The late-night host played a clip of Trump on the red carpet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for Wednesday’s (June 11) performance of the French anti-government protest epic. In the video, Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, spoke highly of the production, saying, “I’ve seen it, we’ve seen it a number of times. It’s fantastic.” However, when asked which character he identifies with more, Jean Valjean or Javert, Trump was stumped. “That’s a tough one. The last part of that question, that’s tough, I think,” he said before turning to Melania and saying, “You better answer that one, honey. I don’t know.” “What do you mean you don’t know?...

Taylor Tomlinson hosted the final episode of After Midnight on Thursday (June 12), where she spoke of how grateful she was for the opportunity and how disappointed she was that CBS isn’t replacing her with a new host. The comedian explained to viewers how she decided to step away from the show to focus on her stand-up career, and in doing so, CBS chose to end After Midnight rather than continue with a new host. “It was my dream that I would get to finish out this season and hand it off to a new host,” she said. “I really wanted CBS to replace me.” After Midnight premiered on January 17, 2024, as a replacement for The Late Late Show, which ended after James Corden stepped down as host. Based on the Comedy Central show @midnight, the show saw a panel of comedians playing games and discussing hot topics to earn points.

Despite the current push for Canadian-made products in the wake of Trump’s tariff wars, Canadian broadcasters are doubling down on American formats and partnerships for the upcoming television season.

Bell Media, Corus, Rogers Sports & Media and the Canadian Broadcasting Centre (CBC) each took a day to present their upfronts in Toronto last week to advertisers and press. During the four-day frenzy they flew in talent, presented red carpets and unveiled plans for consolidated ad sales.

The presentation styles varied, as CBC opted for a breakfast event and Rogers did theirs virtually, but the message was the same: when...

‘Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything’ Review: Captures Her Brilliance as an Interviewer…and the Fusion of Politics and Entertainment She Helped Forge
Image
“Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything” is a documentary a lot like its subject. It’s sharp and inquiring in a playful way. It asks friendly questions but knows just when to toss in a tough one. It sizes up important people with clear-eyed worldly perception, but it’s also enthralled by the seductions of fame and money and power.

“Tell Me Everything” delivers the Barbara Walters story, in all its tasty fascination and significance, and it captures a great deal about Walters as a person because it refuses to be intimidated by how elusive she could be. On TV, she...

‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Actor Erik Per Sullivan Is Going to Harvard Instead of Returning as Dewey for Revival, Says Bryan Cranston
Image
The “Malcolm in the Middle” revival series will see Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprising their roles as the Wilkerson family — but Erik Per Sullivan will not be returning as Dewey, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark instead recast as the character. After starring in the original Fox series from 2000 to 2006, Sullivan stepped away from acting in 2010, at the age of 19. For that reason, “Malcolm” fans weren’t entirely surprised that he wouldn’t be joining for new episodes. However, that retirement doesn’t mean that Sullivan wasn’t invited, says Cranston.

“I talked to Erik and I said,...

‘Duster’: Nina’s Big Test & Richard Nixon Subplot, Explained
Image
[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Duster Episode 5.] Nina (Rachel Hilson) gets put to the test in a very big way on the latest episode of Duster and puts on a masterclass in subterfuge to get through it unscathed. First, the episode begins with a rather shocking aside. Two administrative officials — one from the Pentagon and one from the FBI — are summoned to the White House for an emergency meeting with none other than Richard Nixon, who declares from the Oval Office, “Gentlemen, we’ve got a big f***ing problem.” Later, we see the Watergate cleanup operation begin … with the help of Agent Grant (Dan Tracy), no less. This CGI-enhanced cameo is just the start of a pseudo-history subplot involving the disgraced former president that was first envisioned by cocreator Latoya Morgan. “That was one of the MacGuffins that I pitched that J.J. [Abrams, cocreator] really got excited about because it’s something in...
