Fantastic acting by the two principal characters, particularly Paul Walter Hauser, who convincingly plays a psychopathic serial killer. That said, this could have been an excellent 90 or 120 minute film (instead of a fairly good 6-part mini-series) by removing the extortion sub-plot with a corrupt prison guard and a budding relationship with a revered mafia boss, neither of which is resolved by the end of the series and neither of which have any bearing on its conclusion.

Gosh, with each episode an hour long and the story dragging on and on, it was only a matter of time before one would throw their hands up heavenwards and shout STOP.

How can anyone get past the over-acting on this series? It's like I'm watching the tryout for "Who Wants to be the Next Al Pacino?" It's very cringey.

The story is pretty good, especially since it is based on a true story. The acting is pretty good too! However, to make this into 6 hours is tv is INSANE. It could have easily been a 2 hour movie. If you have time to waste, it's ok. If you want to get quality tv time, I'd pass. There is just too much fluff. The ending really isn't done that well either. These reviews require 600 characters. It is hard to put as much fluff into this review as was put into the movie. It would take me six hours to figure what additional stuff to put in here but I do want to share my opinion. I hoped you stopped reading already because this is just additional junk I have to put in.
Nothing over the Top in my opinion and Not Spectacular that Some reviews attest to.
Liotta and Kinnear definitely show how to act accordingly and Edgerton let's just say he's out of his Depth and literally Looks like he's trying to act every scene.
The Story Has Potential yet not remotely original and Someone Please Stop Making our English Actors put on an American accent as Most SUCK at it and Edgerton proves this point.
We are ENGLISH!! We Have ENGLISH accents not American so who cares if it's in the Script!!
Hire an American if the US Accent is demanded.

Can't hear the Larry character speak without thinking of Emmet Walsh. Otherwise, meh on the series so far after three esp. Hope it gets better. Most of the supporting players not great. Kinnear does a good job.

Acting is top notch. Really, really good. The story and writing- excellent! The flow or direction and music/soundtrack is awful. This went way too slowly, I mean I get drama, but damn. Snoooooze.

This series could have been much more enjoyable to the viewer if the dramatization and Hollywood scripted dialogue weren't so obvious. Many scenes lacked substance for me, pushed too hard to dramatize the story, without any believable character development. Plenty of scenes could've been edited down as you get stuck for a minute watching someone stare off in the the distance thinking. To me this is just filler nonsense trying to make up for a lack of depth. Every character enters a scene unannounced like in some sort of TV sitcom. If writing and acting were closer to reality, I'd have enjoyed it much more. I couldn't bare it.

It's good, great acting and the fact that it's based on a true story helps a lot, but it's so incredibly slow. It feels stretched out by at least double, maybe three times what it should be.

Well made and acted etc., but very slow; I think you could easily miss at least two episodes without losing sight of the story or characters.
What you think the ending will be will probably be correct. Great if you enjoy the slow type of drama, and I stuck with it and felt it so so. I realise I am in the minority in this, but don't go in expecting an action prison drama. This is not it. It could have been done in 4 episodes.
