He keeps finding ways to stay relevant, but only ends up getting in his two sons' ways. The only time he really comes into his own is when he is in the kitchen. He is a cook nonpareil, waiting to be discovered, not yet fully aware of his culinary superpower. Until one day, he comes into contact with a bunch of merry women. They rekindle in Sharma, a passion for cooking and life in general, that was missing from his life.
What follows is the mysterious and hilarious double life of super chef Sharma, as he overcomes his own as well as society's prejudices, on his way to finding meaning in life.

    It's Namkeen

Anwar Says : A real tribute by Paresh Rawal to the legend Rishi Kapoor, same character played by two veterans but you would still feel that Rishi Kapoor could have finished this. The sweater clad Rishi's role was tailor made for him and may be looked as Baghban-2 .

Hitesh Bhartia's team of cinematography and editing would not feel you awkward the frequent change of artist and the simplicity of all other characters including Juhi Chawla would take you to the end of the movie. Sushil Nayar is the only character worth mentioning besides the two leads , as he stand tall against the stalwarts.

Music by Sushil Khanwakar is not at par with his previous one, but as Chintuji fan , watch this to pay homage to him , and you would not regret. His cute antics would make this a memorable one . 3.5 out of 5 from me.

    Sharmaji namkeen

Sharmaji namkeen is a comedy drama family film directed by hitesh bhatia. Lets not talk about the positives and negatives for the film. Lets not judge this film and only celebrate it for india's one of the most finest actors is working in it. Rishi kapoor and his legacy will always go on. Paresh rawal deserves all the praise for agreeing to this film. Watch it. Watch it for all the beautiful moments it will give you. You will have a constant smile on your face. Its a beautiful film.

This should have released in theaters!

At a time when when cinema is packed with gangster glorifying or hero glorifying masala violence film, cinema desperately needs beautiful slice of life films like Sharmaji Namkeen. Such is the low level the audience have stooped that they are only preferring masala films in theaters (except TKF) so much so that makers of such small budget slice of life films fear to release their films in theater.

Sharmaji Namkeen is definitely not the best slice of life film I have seen but it still a nice sweet one. It talks about life after retirement and the subsequent relation of a retired father with his son.

The plot is simple and straightforward and has enough sweet moments to put a smile on you and your parents face. Ofc this is a must watch with your family. Especially your mom dad who have been witnessing the legend Chintu ji for years must get to see him one last time and believe me it will leave them tear eyed knowing they won't get to witness the legend any more.

This is totally Rishi Kapoor's film. With age, he just gets more sweeter . Whenever he's given a sweet character to play, he absolutely nails it. Paresh Rawal does a good job filling in his shoes but definitely misses the charm Rishi posseses . Juhi Chawla gets in a film after long time it's good to witness her.

What I also liked is Sharmaji's elder son's performance. His character is such, even in scenes of quarrel, he never gets overboard like you know we have seen Arjun Kapoor in 2 states slapping his dad and what not in many films, but in this, his anger is under control showing he still respects his father. Good thing!

Negatives- climax is a bit overdone imo.

Overall, you just can't miss this one. If you are looking for a slice of life film that puts a smile on your face with no complicated narrations and stuff, then Sharmaji Namkeen is your film to watch. Watch it with your family.

    Farewell Rishi Kapoor!

    Sharmaji Namkeen review :

Rishi Kapoor's swan song turns out to be a warm and touching tribute to the versatile actor who passed away in April 2020 leaving this film incomplete. Paresh Rawal then stepped in to shoot the remaining portions and thus, we get to see both Rishi and Paresh in the same role of Sharmaji - a retired private sector employee who finds solace in cooking and makes it his new profession, much to the chagrin of his two adult sons.

Admittedly, it takes about ten minutes to get used to watching both the actors playing the same role but the screenplay is so breezy and sweet that you get used to it soon enough and then actually end up appreciating Paresh Rawal for gamely inbibing the nuances of the character left incomplete by Kapoor. It is a fantastic performance. The supporting cast, comprising Sheeba Chaddha, Ayesha Raza and Parmeet (Bittu) Sethi, are super competent.

As for Rishi, he is absolute natural here and looks so cute and childlike in some scenes that you just wish to hug him. Sharmaji Namkeen is a perfect feel-good farewell to the fine actor who entertained us for five decades before leaving for his heavenly abode. His scenes with Juhi Chawla will certainly invoke the fond nostalgia of their Bol Radha Bol (1992) days. Do watch it. Sharmaji, tussi fun ho!!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

    What a fantastic family movie

I love the movie from start till end. It was too good. Humor, comedy, emotions, care, love, no extra over the top drama or buildup. I wait for such story oriented movies and really thank the makers for doing a fab work. All the actors are superb and well known. No nonsense style, it brought a smile to my face.
