It's a great cast but it suffers the greatest sin of all. It's boring. It's four insufferable billionaire sociopaths hanging out on a weekend getaway, being awful people. It's satire, they nail the techno bro ego and jargon and total lack of empathy. You just don't care about any of them or what happens to them or what they have to say. It feels like a single sideplot from a season of Succession drawn out into a full movie...and it doesn't work. What would make it exciting on a tv series is the main plot, other characters, drama, intrigue, suspense, music, cliffhangers etc...things completely absent from this foray. I legit started scrolling through my phone at the midpoint because I got the gist and didn't care anymore by then.
The problem with allowing anyone to vote is you might get a dumb president and you might get people reviewing this gem less than a 7. Superb acting, A+ cinematography and special effects, A+ script. If you like sci-fi watch this now. The whole cast is chefs kiss. Long live Jennifer C the ageless wonder. The season finale left me wanting more. I can't wait for season 2. One of the 5 reviews wrote especially as "specially" which is why I gave it a 10 instead of 9. The themes at play here are so deep and thought provoking. Every action had an equal or greater opposing reaction. What would you change and is it worth the risk?
Anyone who reviews this less than an 8/10 has 0 taste in cinema and would rather watch a Fast and the Furious movie. Masterfully directed and acted. Performances across the board are top tier. Taron is one of the most underrated actors of modern film, I know that he won an award for Rocket Man but I feel like he is rarely talked about in the media as one of the greats and I think he should be. Paul WH puts on a master class with his evil role. Tense and gripping, emotionally gut wrenching, this is such a great piece of work. Limited series really are the way to go. I can't tell you the last time I put my phone down and actually paid attention to a show.
